SIRFS Notice
Please keep out
of burn area
A hazard reduction burn was conducted in Elizabeth Park last week. It
was one of the strategic burns needed for the Bush Fire Management Plan
for Scotland Island.
For a number of reasons resident should not walk through the burn area.
From an environmental point of view, too many people walking through
the area will put pressure on the re-emerging native vegetation. From a
safety point of view, there is still a potential for some of the dead
trees in the park to fall. On the night of the burn, the Fire Brigade
identified a number of potentially dangerous trees and these were cut
down. However, several other trees fell of their own accord. THIS POSES A POTENTIAL PUBLIC
RISK ISSUE. So, please avoid walking through the
park until such time as the bush has had a chance to
regenerate and the potential for falling trees has passed. The Island
Brigade will be asking the Rural Fire Service and Pittwater Council to
audit the area for potentially dangerous trees in the burn area.
Thanks for your consideration in this matter.
