2 Peter 3:10 . . . the day of the Lord will come.
WHAT? JUDGMENT!
It is that time of year up north when things die and pass from life to death. Garden produce is by now gathered. Farmers are trying to finish up their harvest. The last vestiges of flowers are fading. The trees have let go their final glory and stand barren.
In the studies of pastors and from their pulpits the focus is drawn toward the last few Sundays of the Trinity season. Their thoughts draw ours to what nature itself declares: life does come to an end and each in its appointed season fades away and dies.
With the death of every person comes judgment, and in its appointed time comes the final judgment of all people. This is an inescapable fact of which every passing autumn reminds us. There is coming a day of judgment.
The writer to the Hebrews states in 9:27, "And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment." Also the Apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:10, "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad."
The day of this judgment is coming, thought it often appears to us as though it shall never come. Do not think there is time enough for spiritual things. The Lord in 2 Peter 3:9 turns us to watchfulness and prayer. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise. The day of judgment is at hand.
