This Friday instead of our usual Mama Walk, we're having a multi-family Gratitude Hike at Sunol Regional Wilderness. Thanks to Mama Walk mama Shana for the idea!
We'll be hiking to Little Yosemite, a small waterfall. This is a moderate hike with hills, more challenging than our walks at Lake Elizabeth. From Shana: "The trail is wide and graveled. Hiking strollers work okay on the trail, but not other kinds of strollers. The final hill that has to be climbed down to get to the waterfalls is a bit gnarly. My kids (aged 2.5, 6 & 10, who have been hiking out there from day one) do just fine. My two year old will be carried in a REI back pack by my husband for part of it and especially down the last part. There will be lots of kids and we will go at a slow pace."
The theme of the hike is gratitude, and we encourage conversation on the hike to focus on what we are grateful for.
We'll meet at 10 am by the beginning of the trail to Little Yosemite, which is at the last parking lot. There is a large metal cattle gate and bathrooms at this parking lot. If it's your first time, you can ask at the entrance kiosk to be pointed in the direction of the Little Yosemite trail.
Parking is $5 (unless you have an East Bay Regional Parks pass).
The hike is about 1.5 miles round trip. We plan to pack lunches and spend some time enjoying Little Yosemite. We expect the whole outing to take about 3 hours. (If hiked without stopping at Little Yosemite, it'd probably take about 1.5 hours.)
Let me know if you would like to join in the fun! Cell phones won't work at the beginning of the trail, but you can be in touch with me earlier on Friday at 510-516-0234.
About Mama Walks
Compassion Tree’s Mama Walks are an informal gathering and conversation between women about our journeys through birthing and parenting. They are a time to share everyday challenges and celebrations, connect over birth stories, ask for guidance, be listened to and honored in a safe space, and listen and learn from others. This is an opportunity to become more empowered to make conscious choices, and to become aware of new options on a practical level.
Women are welcome whether they are a parent, pregnant, a future mama yet to conceive, or simply interested in the conversation. The walks are free, and babies and kids are welcome. Older kids who join us often bring a scooter or bike, and often some of us stay at one of the playgrounds after the walk.
