Hello Firstname

Wednesday 2 October
The speaker next Wednesday is Peter Young CPAGB AFIAP APAGB who will be presenting his print talk "Tales from the Dark Side". I'm afraid I don't know too much about Peter, but Mike Bews tells me that it is a mainly monochrome print evening.

Projected Image Competition - Round 1
Last Wednesday was the first round of the Projected Image Competition. Our judge for the night was Mark Mumford FRPS from South Wales who treated us to his own individual style of judging which was, to say the very least, different. I suspect that the one comment (oft repeated throughout the evening) that would have been taken away by entrants was that many images with dark backgrounds would have benefited from a narrow key-line around them to give the viewer some sort of clue as to where the image stopped and the black background of the projection screen started.

Exhibition to Visit
We have received the following email from Paul Wenham-Clarke:

I have two exhibitions coming up shortly at Centrespace Gallery in Bristol and I wondered if any of your members would like to come to the private view Fri 4th Oct 6 to 8-30pm? Also I need volunteers to invigilate the shows; if anyone has any free time to help that would be nice. My website is www.wenhamclarke.com
I was shortlisted in this year's World Photography Organisation Awards and I have work in this year's Taylor-Wessing exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery.

I hope you're interested.

Thanks
Paul

Places to Go
Following the success of recent railway events at Didcot arranged by Neil Cave, he has sent details of two more days; his email is reproduced below and the link to the downloads is shown after his email:

Hi to one and all.

We are now pleased to be able to offer two further days of West Country Steam in February 2014, this time we are heading to the Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway where we will be photographing the lines resident Black Manor, 7827 on four MK1 Coaches. We are having the Coaches partially repainted so that they may take on a more BR era guise. We are also having some lineside clearance done to make sure the best locations are at their best.

It is expected that demand for these days will be high so if you would like to reserve a space(s) on one or both days please email myself in the first instance to register your interest before sending your cheque to David. You may also pay using a Personal Payment via PayPal to this email address.

As ever thanks for your continued support.

Regards
Neil.

If you hear of any events members might like to visit, please let me know so that I can build a database of events around our area for inclusion in future editions of the newsletter. If you're out and about and see brochures for things happening then please pick them up and let me have them at any Wednesday meeting.

Sue O'Connell Wins Gong!
This image has done rather well for Sue, winning a Gold medal in the Indian Golden Circuit.

'Checking the Catch' by Sue O'Connell ARPS AFIAP

Sue is a "bit backward in coming forward" when it comes to blowing her own trumpet, but I managed to wheedle from her the following list of acceptances the image has also gained:
Trierenberg Super Circuit (Austria) (4 salons), Certamen Fotografico (Spain), Le Catalan (France), South Devon International Salon, Welsh International Salon, Carpathian Vernissage (Ukraine), Perspective One (India), FCC (Argentina), Indian Golden Circuit (2 salons), Kumanovo (Macedonia) & Northern Counties - Not bad, eh!
I'd like to make this a regular feature, highlighting members' successful images. If you have an image (print or projected) that has done well for you, then please email me the image (newsletter@bristolphoto.org.uk) let me know details of its success(es) and I will try to include it in a future issue of the newsletter. Don't be afraid to tell the world how well you have done, look upon it as encouragement to other members to have a go at exhibiting their images. Images need to be jpegs no bigger than 1400 x 1050 pixels (this can be in either direction) saved at 72 ppi.
