FROM GRAVE TO GLORY -- SATISFACTION

Psalm 22:26 The poor shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek Him will praise the LORD. Let your heart live forever!

This verse brings to our memory what Jesus said at the beginning of His sermon on the mount. From Matthew 5:3, 6: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled." The intentions of the coming Messiah were not physical but spiritual. He came to teach those who were "poor in spirit" and those who "hunger and thirst for righteousness."

We see the same connection in Psalm 22. We should not limit the poor who shall eat and be satisfied to the physically poor eating physical food. Christ is not a bread king (John 6:27). Paul spoke of the same thing when he wrote about receiving the blessings of Christ's resurrection. As he penned in 1 Corinthians 15, God's kingdom cannot be inherited by the flesh, the corruptible, or the mortal. Those who receive the kingdom must "put on" incorruption and immortality.

David teaches us the same in Psalm 22. The poor will eat and be satisfied, not in a physical way but in a spiritual way. Through faith in Christ, those poor in spirit receive the righteousness that they hunger and thirst for. They are filled and satisfied because they receive the immortality of Christ's righteousness. The restrictions and limitations of their flesh will give way to the eternal glory of God's kingdom.
