Matthew 6:33 "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness . . ."

PRIORITIES

Back in the 1940's a baseball fan was once asked the following question: "If you were in a lifeboat at sea, and there was only room for one more person in the boat, who would you save, your Father or Ted Williams?" The fan shrugged his shoulders and said, "Whadda ya' mean? My dad can't even hit .200!" In this man's world, saving a great slugger like Ted Williams took priority over the life of even dear old Dad.

Priorities. What's most important to you? We live in a sports crazed, entertainment saturated, fun loving society. Do fun and games sometimes take priority over our Heavenly Father? Does the TV in our living room, the Sunday morning softball tournament, the weekend by the lake ever get in the way of our relationship with the Lord? Does God's Word get pushed aside for fun and games?

In His love God made you His priority. Even before time began, dear Christian, He picked you out special for Himself. In time He gave up His Son on Calvary's Cross to save you from drowning eternally in your sins. By the power of His Spirit and Word He grabbed hold of your heart and pulled you aboard into the lifeboat of His grace. His priority is to see you safely to the other side, where He waits to dry your every tear, where there is no sorrow, pain or death.

In these last days, dear friends, let each one look at himself and ask, "Where are my priorities? Does my Heavenly Father sometimes get second place in my life? Is His Word of Salvation the true treasure of my heart? Or do I sometimes find myself bowing down to the entertainment god?" Is it time for you and I to repent of mixed-up priorities? O Lord, forgive our sins, change our hearts, and keep us close to your side! You alone are our salvation. You alone love us with an everlasting love!
