Miracles big and small.
You're the God of this City. You're the King of these people. You're the Lord of this nation. You are. For greater things have yet to come. And greater things are still to be done in this City. --Chris Tomlin
What an incredible time we had in Afghanistan this past 8 days!
We’ve seen miracles big and small… from the change of heart on the part of the Afghan government to pay the teachers of Barek Aub a sustainable wage, to seeing a local woman bring her two barefoot children in to register for classes at the school for street kids in a driving thunderstorm to try to start them off on a life better than she ever had.
And we’ve met a host of people we’ll never forget… from Latefa, the sweet little 8 year-old girl who stole my heart at the school for street kids, to Sediq, whose right hand was hacked off by the Taleban and is now the caretaker of the ruins of the bombed out Istalef Hotel and grows roses, orange trees, and a host of other flowering and fragrant flora in the rubble.
Even the temporary school closure was a blessing -- a reminder that, despite the many miracles our teams have seen over here, there is a LOT of work remaining to be done and we can’t let the occasional setbacks deter us. Building Barek Aub into a village with a viable economy that will sustain all its residents will take a lot of work.
I really believe our work here is just a single thread being woven into a magnificent tapestry that is God’s plan to restore Afghanistan to its former beauty and glory. What an incredible honor it is to have played a small part in it.
So that’s it for us from Kabul. We leave in less than an hour for the airport and the long journey home. I’ll write as soon as possible after we’ve landed safely on US soil… hopefully before I fall asleep this time!
Please pray for safe travel as we wrap up our journey home and continue our work from there.
God bless you for your faithfulness,
--Bob

One more thing about the photos... Although I supplied a few of the photos I’ve included with these updates this week, the majority of them were shot by Jordan Wiens, who did an incredible job not only of taking striking photos, but who didn’t hide behind the camera all week and was eager to stay fully engaged in each and every activity we were involved in. And since you really didn't get a chance to see him in action... heeeeeere's Jordan! Thank you Jordan for all your hard work!
