2 Timothy 1:3-5 I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith.
UNSHRINKING FAITH
Paul is in prison in Rome for the second time, and this time it does not look good for his release. He is writing to his young friend and co-worker, Timothy, and he suspects that it is the last letter that he will be able to write to him. What will he use this precious parchment to pass on to young Pastor Timothy? What would you write?
The first thing that Paul did was to give thanks for the many times that Timothy came to mind. Have you ever done that, remembered someone day after day; not a spouse or sweetheart -- that's too easy -- but perhaps a relative or friend going through a difficult time? You cannot help them, but you commend them to your faithful Savior, who can help them. You might also thank God that he has given you such a friend or relative to pray for. That's what Paul did. He thanked God that Timothy came so often to his mind, that he had so much opportunity to pray for him. He was thankful that Timothy was as close to him as a dear son, and so caring as to have tears, perhaps at their parting, which Paul also remembered.
Above all, Paul was thankful for young Timothy's unshrinking faith, and used this last letter to remind and encourage Timothy in this faith; yes, Paul was thankful that remembering Timothy gave him the opportunity to pray for his faith.
