Spring is here! Yee-haw! And it's about time, too.. The sap is flowing so let's get right to it.
This month of April sees The Mighty Manatees play their first outdoor show of the year!
On Sat. April 25 at 5:00pm we will perform at the 5th Annual HopFest at The Drafting Room in Spring House, PA. www.draftingroom.com There are other acts performing throughout the day. Valet parking.
And speaking of outdoor shows...The Mighty Manatees will be playing three "live on the beach" Saturday afternoon shows at the Jersey shore this summer. On July 18, Aug. 22, and Aug. 29 we will be playing 3-7 at The Golden Inn in Avalon, NJ www.thegoldeninn.com
The "Live At Puck Volume 1" CD release party at Puck in Doylestown, PA , two weeks ago went swimmingly and was filmed for a cable TV show. Uncle Ronkle has obtained the film and is editing it for inclusion in a future Mighty Manatees DVD. Also being edited for the DVD is the long-lost footage of reggae guitar legend Earl "Chinna" Smith recording with The Mighty Manatees one hot sunny afternoon a few years ago.
Manatee Fun Fact: Did you know that Manatees drummer Jim "Mr. Jimmy" Cavanaugh recently became our very first Manatees grandfather? It's true! Jim's son Cliff and wife Adrienne just celebrated the birth of their first child! It's a little girl named Madelyn! All of us here at Manatees Headquarters wish the entire family all the best. Congratulations Grampa!
WXPN noontime DJ Helen Leight has received our new Mighty Manatees CD. You can call her between 11-1 and request one of our songs. Her request line is 215-573-9976. When our music is played on the air more people hear us than all the people we play live to in an entire year. Long-distance calls are welcome as well.
A few weeks ago, a few of us rode up to New York City to see the great Van Morrison perform at The Beacon Theater. Van performed his classic album "Astral Weeks" in it's entirety! It was a very inspirational evening. During the first set Van even did "Comfortably Numb"! Thanks to Dave who put it all together..
Mighty Manatees poet-in-residence Brian Hassett and several friends have launched a new web-site featuring rare video clips of musical greats. The site is www.RockPeaks.com Check out The Grateful Dead doing "Mountains Of The Moon" in 1969 on Playboy TV show the same month that man walked on the moon for the first time. It's my personal favorite.
