Wednesday 8 August
Next Wednesday we have a visit from Graham Hodgkiss ARPS AFIAP MPAGB APAGB who will be presenting his talk entitled Is it my Passion or an Obsession? Graham is an ebullient and amusing 'Brummie', and also a multi-award winning photographer and judge. He has been lecturing around the UK for more than 25 years and his relaxed, informal style combined with a wealth of experience should make for an entertaining and informative presentation. Sponsored by Colour Confidence - an evening of colour & monochrome prints on various subjects.

DI Group - Lightroom - Part 2
Monday sees the second of two special meetings of the DI group when Bob Micklethwaite will be demonstrating the use of Lightroom. All are welcome and if last Monday's meeting is anything to go by, there will be loads to learn about this Adobe program

Studio/Clubrooms - Building Works
Don't forget that the clubrooms are out of action for all but programmed meetings for the next two weeks whilst we have essential building works done. Please check with Nick Ball as to studio availability during the rest of August (studio@bristolphoto.org.uk)

PAGB News
Please click on this link to see Issue 72 which has News from Warwick, the complete list of FIAP Distinction recipients from the 2012 PAGB Application and results and winning photos from the Inter-Federation Print competition.
This issue is quite large at 2MB and may take a little time to download. Please be patient - sometimes it looks like the link isn't working but e-news is downloading in the background without your system telling you.

Exhibitions to Visit
BPS member, Peter Brisley, is having an exhibition of his images at the brand new gallery that has opened in the relocated premises of Photographique at the junction of Clare St and Corn St, adjacent to Stanfords Bookshop in central Bristol. The exhibition is on now and until 31 August.
The exhibition is mostly images originally captured with a compact camera and edited via the I-Pad whilst travelling in Cambodia and Brazil but also closer to home, including the Somerset Levels. Expect plenty of "burnt Highlights" and "blocked up shadows" - this is Peter unchained. Considering that Peter has only just been dragged, kicking and screaming, into the 21st Century as far as computer technology is concerned, this

Things to Photograph
The Bristol Balloon Fiesta will be taking place over the weekend 9 to12 August. Fair weather permitting, expect plenty of exciting balloon shots as well as a couple of different aerobatic displays; on Thursday evening is the popular Nightglow, on Friday evening there is an unusual display by the SWIP aerobatict team with their IlluminAir display (for a taster of what to expect click here) and on Sunday afternoon a display by the Blades Aerobatic team. All this in addition to the usual mass balloon ascents. Full details can be found on the Fiesta website.

Nunney Street Fair takes place on Saturday the 5th at (strange though it may sound) Nunney near Frome. There will be entertainment throughout the day in front of Nunney Castle along with Bathampton Morris Men performing at times throughout the village all at various times throughout the day. Full details at their website.

Mitsubishi Motors Hartpury Horse Trials (previously known as the Hartpury Three Day Event) is being held from 9 to 12 August. The event has developed into one of the highlights of the equestrian calendar, with sporting action ranging across one, two and three star levels. Last year saw the inaugural three star competition which was supported by many of the world's leading competitors. The 10,000 strong crowd witnessed top eventing stars in action, including World and European Champion Zara Phillips, Andrew Hoy, Mary King, Matt Ryan and Andrew Nicholson. And finally, if you've given up on things photographic, there's always Almondsbury Beer Festival on this Saturday the 4th, after which all your pictures will probably look good, but poshibly a bit shoft focush!

If you know of any events happening that might be of interest to fellow club members, please let me know and I will include the details here.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
If you want to blow your own trumpet or, dare I say such a thing, blow someone else's trumpet for them, then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include it in the next issue.
