Day of Reckoning Rally

Communities outraged by NSW Government planning decisions have declared Sunday February 11, 2007 as the ‘Day of Reckoning’ against the Iemma Government.

The protest started as an action against Frank Sartor’s planning decisions and quickly escalated into a more general protest about the lack of planning democracy in NSW.

As offshore residents we are continually penalised for the lack of infrastructure planning by the State. The vexed question of access springs directly from this oversight. However, not only does the State government refuse to acknowledge their part in this imbroglio, they heap insult on injury by taxing us. We already pay a jetty tax. The recent Church Point POM Options and Issues paper have flagged a car parking tax, a boat mooring tax, and a cargo wharf tax. That’s at least three taxes – just to get home at night.

Together with 40 other community action groups, HAA, SIRA and the WPCA are all supporting the rally. Most of these groups (ranging from the Hunter Valley to Ulladulla) have issues of inappropriate development or lack of development. Thousands of concerned citizens whose voices have been ignored will be saying to the Iemma Government - Change the Policies or Change the Government.

Please join us. We need every voice we can muster.

Rally participants will meet at the Archibald Fountain in Hyde Park at 1100 and march on Parliament House. A Day of Reckoning Rally bus will depart from Church Point at 0930 on the Sunday returning to Church Point by 1400.  If you would like to be on the bus please let me know. All ideas or assistance with placards gratefully accepted.
