In today’s competitive age, people want to stand out from the crowd, especially with more pictures visible on and off line. Individually is the trend. Therefore, statement jewellery with bling is popular. Dare-to-be-different leads.

Every lady likes to update her jewellery box, but for most cost dictates. As in Hong Kong, budget priced dramatic necklaces and earrings are popular – even throw-away accessories. If you make jewellery for profit, boost your sales with cheaper designs.

Power Necklaces & Bracelets
Extra long and multi-layer necklaces are in. Power necklaces, chunky over-sized ‘Theresa May Specials’ remain the peak of fashion. Inspired by the British Prime Minister who wears them at every public meeting and event – perhaps to intimidate her opposition in battle at Brexit.

Jewellery is one of the few ways a leader can express her personality within the rigid frame of tailored suits. Maybe the style is a giveaway to her inner character, but these chunky designs are more in-time with fashion than the Prime Minister herself. Theresa’s jewellery comes from Amanda Wakeley, costing £250 for a neck chain and £185 a bracelet. Usually silver plated or faux pearls to save both weight and cost. Hollow, like her politics!

Heavy, chunky bracelets and rings match this trend, glamorizing an older wardrobe. Make chunky beaded rings!

Statement Earrings
Matching the style, earrings in 2018 are the bigger and longer the better. A revival of the late-1960s and 70s where Twiggy wore enormous plastic earrings. Fashion always returns.

To make large earrings even more eye catching, bright colours, mismatched shapes, sizes, and chain and tassel drops are celebratory popular.

London jewelers have reported an increase in earring sales this year – so make more earrings!

Colour Trends For 2018
Vivid greens, like avocado green and military green is the ‘in’ colour for 2018. Along with pastels and lavender to purple. Other hues to stand out like milk white, chocolate brown, yellow and tomato red have also been on the catwalk this year.

Chrysoprase & Chrysocolla – Spring Golden Leeks

The name chrysoprase (rhymes with bliss and craze) is from a Greek word meaning Golden Leek. It is the rarest of the chalcedony group of gem quartzes and its bright even colour and texture is ideal for beads.

Chrysoprase was popular in the time of the Greeks and Romans when it was cut into cameos – the Egyptians used it with lapis jewellery and even to decorate beads.

In Europe until the middle of the last century it was used lavishly, when deposits mined in Silesia exhausted and it became expensive. The Book of Revelations (21:20) describes the holy city of Jerusalem with its 12 walls decorated with precious gemstones, the tenth being chrysoprase.

According to an 11th Century Byzantine manuscript, chrysoprase strengthens vision and relieves internal pain. Metaphysically, it brings a sense of grace, helping meditative, calmness and acceptance of oneself and others.

It is believed to encourage positive outcome, helping to heal a broken heart, the heart itself, the reproductive organs, and fertility. And in the East, Chrysoprase is said to balance yin-yang and encourage the heart chakra bringing energy to the physical body. Astrologically, chrysoprase is associated with the zodiac signs of Gemini and Cancer. Chrysocolla is very similar to chrysoprase, but usually has more blue colouring. Both stones look great beside turquoise in a necklace or bracelet – giving a bright natural appearance.
