Matthew 1:18a This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: . . .
FROM HEAVEN ABOVE TO EARTH I COME (7-8)
7. So take some time from your busy day and go with the shepherds to look, for you too can see what they saw.
Give heed, my heart, lift up thine eyes! What is it in yon manger lies?
Who is this child, so young and fair? The blessed Christ-child lieth there.
8. Yes, we see Him, the Holy Infant, so tender and mild. It is not going to be an easy life for Him. This Savior, Child of Mary, will feel our human woe. “Nails, spear, shall pierce Him through, the cross be borne for me, for you.” What can we give Him for all this? We just celebrated Thanksgiving, but it seems like a second Thanksgiving Day should be celebrated on December 25th. We could empty out our bank accounts and our pockets and we would never have enough to repay such a gift as God gives at Bethlehem. Instead, maybe we can pour out our hearts in love, and I suspect this would be more to His liking anyway.
Welcome to earth, Thou noble Guest, Through whom the sinful world is blest!
Thou com’st to share my misery; What thanks shall I return to Thee?
