THE WARMTH

The warmth -- something to remember on a warm summer evening.

It is a good thing to occasionally stop and "smell the roses." We lead such busy lives, few are the moments to stop and appreciate the little things. Today we appreciate the warmth of summer.

The conversation often begins with a question like this, "How are you?" It's the response that gets me, "I can't complain." What? I can't complain? I dare say that's what we are best at, complaining. We complain when it's cold. We complain when it's windy. We complain when it's rainy. We even complain when it's warm (or hot).

The earth is tilted on its axis at 23 degrees and spins at just over 1000 miles per hour. Our gracious God has situated this planet just far enough from the sun so we don't burn up and just close enough so we don't freeze (and still the evolutionist says it was a lucky, cosmic mistake). We may complain about "too hot" or "too whatever" but consider the love of our God to create an earth where we can live (add or subtract pieces of clothing) just about everywhere.

Instead of complaining about the warm and hot, the cool and cold, we ought to praise our God for the time of grace that He gives each of us. We should enjoy the beautiful summer days -- and the beautiful winter days. We may do so contentedly because our God has purchased and won for us a life apart from sin and death, eternal in His presence, through the blood of His Son, Jesus.

Let's not complain, but consider our God's love and all the blessings he showers upon us day by day. God help us to give Him the glory tomorrow in our worship and praise Him for that love. May the Spirit help us further to bear witness to that love whenever we have opportunity.
