Hello Firstname

Wednesday 13 March

Next Wednesday we welcome Chris Pocock FRPS who will be presenting his talk which is enigmatically entitled Why? Presumably we will discover the answer to this question on the night, in the meantime we should satisfy our curiosity by having a look at the type of images that Chris creates by visiting his website (click here). From his website it would appear that he works predominantly in infra-red. Chris hales from deepest Wiltshire and is a member of Swindon Photographic Society (Immediate Past President).

DI Group
The DI Group meets next Monday, 11 March (7.30pm at the Clubrooms). All members are invited to come along to show their images, either as prints or projected images. If you bring digital files please make sure they are in jpg format, sRGB colour space on a pen drive and in a folder of your name. If you want help or advice on any of your images from others, please feel free to bring them along. You are also welcome to come if you just want to sit and watch the proceedings. If there is any spare time we may take a look at one of the Adobe tutorials.

Studio Group
Following the update in the December newsletter, in which Nick Ball explained that he was keen to run sessions that help members make the jump to them hiring the studio and arranging their own shoots, a number of members have contacted him, resulting in a number of very successful studio group sessions using their suggestions with small groups. The image below comes from a session where the suggestion was to try to replicate the pose, lighting etc. of some renaissance art.

Please contact Nick by email (nick@acuma.tv) with your ideas and he will make the arrangements.
Also, Nick would be happy to invite members who have not used the studio before, but are interested in using it, to come to the studio sessions as observers. Again, please contact Nick if you would like to do this.

Mike Fox
Sadly, one of our members, Mike Fox died on March 4th. Mike joined BPS  in 2011 after retiring. He was a quiet, gentle man with a beaming smile. He enjoyed going on walking holidays with his wife Sue and was a keen landscape photographer. He will be greatly missed by those club members who knew him.
Mike studied mathematics at Cambridge where he obtained his PhD. He worked in the nuclear industry, initially at Berkley before moving to Barnwood where he was involved in materials research prior to retiring. He was a very keen walker (right to the end)  and back in the 80's he trekked to Everest Base Camp.
He leaves behind a wife and two grown up children.
Thanks to Mary Pears & Nigel Owen for the above.

Trumpet Blower's Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Studio Bookings
Would all members please note: before you plan your shoot and book your model, you should check whether the studio/clubroom will be free. This can be done easily and at any time by viewing the Clubroom Bookings calendar in the Members' Area of the BPS Website. Bookings can (and must) be made by contacting Mike Bigger at bookings@bristolphoto.org.uk.
Log in details to the Members' Area are at the end of this newsletter.
