Nehemiah 4:20 Our God will fight for us.
WITH MIGHT OF OURS CAN NAUGHT BE DONE
Not only is our God a mighty fortress that shelters us in the face of great threats, but He also sent His only-begotten Son to fight for us, gaining the victory over all our enemies. Such help is not new in our day.
When the Children of Israel stood helpless by the Red Sea, facing the mighty and well-trained Egyptian army, they were terrified. But Moses answered them, "Do not be afraid. ... The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still" (Exodus 14:14).
When the Children of Israel were approaching Canaan the first time, they were terrified when told of the giants in the land. Again Moses told them, "Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt" (Deuteronomy 1:29-30).
After years of wandering in the desert, they approached the promised land again, and Moses told Joshua, "Do not be afraid of them; the LORD your God himself will fight for you" (Deuteronomy 3:22).
This is also how God protected His people of all time: Jesus Christ fighting for them. On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus told His disciples, "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). Soon they would see Him overcome Satan and death as well!
With might of ours can naught be done,
Soon were our loss effected.
But for us fights the valiant one
Whom God himself elected.
Ask ye "who is this?"
Jesus, Christ it is
Of Sabaoth LORD;
And there's none other God.
He holds the field forever!
(The Lutheran Hymnal 262:2)
