The Most High Profile Confession Of Sin In History!

There have been many "high profile" confessions of sin throughout history.  From presidents, senators, celebrities, and preachers, many men and women have had to confess their sin in some very public venues.

We're all familiar with King David's tragic sin with Bathsheba. Psalm 51 is his very repentant, thorough, and sincere confession of his sin.  This is without a doubt the most public confession of sin of any person throughout history. For all eternity, David's contrition and repentance will be read and re-read.

Within this confession, David states 10 tragic effects of sin:
  1. Sin Stains Our Heart. (Psalm 51:2,7,10a)
  2. Sin Enslaves Our Mind. (Psalm 51:3b)
  3. Sin Stings Our Conscience. (Psalm 51:9b)
  4. Sin Suffocates Our Joy. (Psalm 51:8,12a)
  5. Sin Sickens Our Body. (Psalm 51:8b)
  6. Sin Sours Our Attitude. (Psalm 51:10b)
  7. Sin Shakes Our Assurance. (Psalm 51:11)
  8. Sin Saps Our Strength. (Psalm 51:12)
  9. Sin Stifles Our Soul Winning. (Psalm 51:13)
  10. Sin Shuts Up Our Praise. (Psalm 51:14-15)
Andrew Murray said, "One great power of sin is that it blinds men so that they do not recognize its true character." Let us flee sin and temptation.

This Saturday, August 29 is our Conference for Young Men with Dr. John Klink, Pastor of Solid Rock Baptist Church in Corriganville, MD. This is for teen men, grades 7-12. The cost is $5.00 and lunch is provided. Call the church for more information.

We are planning, preparing, and praying earnestly for our 21st annual Sword of the Lord Conference on Sept. 28-29. Godly music and powerful, Bible preaching are the hallmarks of this great meeting.

We have added a very important component to our meeting this year - a "Legal Luncheon" with Attorney Terry Hamilton on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at the lunch hour. Brother Hamilton will be addressing the serious issues our churches are facing in the disturbing changes taking place in our country. Pastors and church leaders will want to be in on this vital session.

Please join us for this year's conference if at all possible. If it is impossible for you to be here with us, please pray for God's hand to be upon the meeting this year. Let me know that you are praying for us. Call the church for information about motels in the area.

This Sunday morning's message is entitled, "Are You Ready For The Lord's Return?" Sunday evening I'll be preaching from James 4:1-2, "How To Stop A War!" This is the third installment of this message.

Our youth programs for the school year are kicking off in the next couple weeks. Teen's Alive, Master Clubs, and King's Kids are all dynamic programs designed to win young people to Christ and to disciple them in the faith.

Follow us on Facebook or Twitter to keep up with what is happening around here and, please check out our website at www.mlibc.org.
