Purim Is Coming!!!

As you know, every year a very dedicated committee of volunteers works hard to come up with a unique concept for the sisterhood Mishloach Manot project. We do this so that everyone in the shul can easily and inexpensively send Mishloach Manot to each other, enjoy the results, and help the shul with one of its most important fund raising projects. For only $120 you can send Mishloach Manot to everyone in the shul, resulting in a cost to you of about $1 for each family you are sending to!

By now, you should have gotten an email with the order form. Please complete and return it by February 21, 2014 to participate in this wonderful project! You may also reply via email to purim@arzeidarom.org with how you want your name to appear, and including how you intend to pay (through the shul PAYPAL account, credit card, check, etc).

Please also let us know if you are willing to help with packing or delivering the Mishloach Manot.

- The Mishloach Manot Committee

Bi-Weekly Mommy And Me

Mommy and Me will now be regularly meeting EVERY OTHER Shabbat at 10:30 am. Join Emma Horowitz for games, stories, songs and snacks. For children ages 0-3 with a parent, siblings welcome. Questions? send an email to mommyandme@arzeidarom.org.

UPCOMING DATES
2/8
2/22

Eruv Fund

Two years ago, all the shuls in the Teaneck and Bergenfield areas jointly decided to help our eruv which was deeply in debt. It is now paying back its debts, but still has a way to go. Although we agreed to put in a budget item, we are the only shul that did not raise dues. This is because the Board felt that it was the duty of each member family to assess the level of tzedakah it wishes to give, and to which causes. We do hope that 100% of the membership will participate, at least minimally, to the upkeep of the eruv, and that those families who can afford to will consider giving more. Please make your checks out to the shul, and mark them clearly that they are for the eruv. The shul will then transfer those funds to the Eruv Corporation.

Youth Committee News

YOUTH GROUPS

Junior congregation starts at 9:45AM. There will be two age groups:
Group 1: 1st - 3rd graders will meet in the social hall
Group 2: 4th and 5th graders will meet in the back left room of the social hall

Following junior congregation, both groups will join together for a small Youth Kiddush. After Kiddush, the kids will be offered an opportunity to pick from two to three structured activities/games lead by one of our group leader.

Nursery, Pre K and Kindergarten groups start at 9:45AM in the back right room of the social hall. This group has their own davening and snacks will be provided. At the end of shul it is required a parent picks up their child from this group.

If your child(ren) do not wish to participate in youth groups, we request that they sit with you in shul. We are asking that children do not walk/run around shul, play by the stairs, in the corner alcoves or play unsupervised outside the building. While most children are quiet and respectful, their lack of participation detracts from the atmosphere the group leaders are trying to create.

SPONSOR YOUTH KIDDUSH

Sponsor the Youth Kiddush for $30 to celebrate a Child's birthday, recognition of achievements or in support of our Youth Groups. To schedule your week to sponsorship please email youth@arzeidarom.org.

Please be advised that the Arzei Darom does not provide any supervision of children outside of the building, outside of structured activities. We are very concerned about the safety of all of the children and ask that no children be permitted to stay outside on their own, climb on the trees or fence, or run into the street. We also ask that all parents remind their children to be respectful of the property and cars and not participate in any destructive behavior.

BNEI AKIVA

Please join Bnei Akiva Snif Chadash (South of Route 4) this Shabbat, January 11th from 4:15 - 5:30 p.m. for snif (Shabbat afternoon groups) at Netivot Shalom located at 811 Palisade Avenue.

Please note that snif will take place on the following Shabbatot at Netivot Shalom:
Shabbat, February 8th from 4:45 - 6:00 p.m.
Shabbat, March 1st from 5:15 - 6:30 p.m.
Shabbat, March 22nd from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Shabbat, April 5th from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Shabbat, May 17th from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Shabbat, June 14th from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.

We ask that families who participate in Bnei Akiva consider an annual contribution of $50-100 to help defray the cost of running this program. For more information or to contribute, please contact Pam Scheininger at pscheininger@hotmail.com.
Please click and "friend" Bnei Akiva's new facebook page to get schedule and other special goings on from Bnei Akiva Snif Chadash: http://www.facebook.com/BneiAkivaSnifChadash.

Learning Opportunities

We are always looking for opportunities to strengthen our connection to Torah. The more Torah in the shul, the better, so let us know if you have any other suggestions.

  • Rabbi Ciment's weekly shiur on Wednesdays at 8:45 pm
  • Hilchot Pesach - Shabbat mornings at 8:15 am
A number of Hebrew and English seforim are missing from our library. If you have any of them, please return them so that other members will have the ability to use them as well. If you are currently using one of the seforim, and need to continue to use it, please contact Rebecca Segal so that we can keep track of where our seforim are. Thank you.

Chesed Opportunities

Bikur Cholim List
If you know of someone who would like to be put on the bikur cholim list, please email the name of the person (English and Hebrew w/ Mother's name), and whether or not they are accepting visitors (if so, please include location) or phone calls (if so, please include phone #) and any other details which the person is interested in sharing with the community. The email address is bikurcholim@arzeidarom.org.

Bikur Cholim Volunteers
Arzei Darom is looking for bikur cholim volunteers to visit the patients at CareOne and Holy Name Medical Center on Shabbat. For those who have volunteered in the past, the visits are gratefully appreciated. Please volunteer and encourage your children to join you for this great mitzvah. Please e-mail Susan Taubes at bikurcholim@arzeidarom.org, so she can add your name to the rotation list and we can have an organized schedule each Shabbat.

Care One
Care One at Teaneck is seeking Shabbos host families to provide hospitality for our patients' relatives. When illness or post surgery rehabilitation at our facility requires a patient’s stay over Shabbos, we often receive requests for accommodations for a spouse, adult child, friend, or other family member. We gladly provide on site RCBC supervised meals, a beautiful Shul and most other requirements. However, when our facility is full, we try to arrange nearby off-site accommodations for sleeping. As a token of our appreciation, we will gladly provide delicious Shabbos meals for the host family, as well. To pre-register as a Shabbos host, please contact Laurie Kleid at 201-287-8560.

Social Hall Rentals

Having a party? Need space for a simcha? Know someone who is? Arzei Darom's social is available for rent at reasonable prices. Please send an email to hallrental@arzeidarom.org for further information.

Important Safety Notice

PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK the doorways or the walkway leading to the doors to the shul with your baby carriage. We understand that if it is raining or snowing you do not want your carriage to get wet, but this is a safety issue. The doorways MUST NOT BE BLOCKED AT ANY TIME.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

Kiddush Committee News

Families interested in sponsoring a kiddush and/or seudat shlishit should contact Holly so that she can reserve the date on the shul calendar. Please also let Holly know if you would like to participate in an upcoming Crock Pot Challenge which generally takes place around Rosh Chodesh. We've been doing these for a year and are always seeking new families to take the challenge.

Kiddush clean up is on a rotating basis, based on your last name. While we recognize that everyone in your group may not be available each Shabbat, we ask that you pitch in if you are assigned in that month so that the same people are not doing the clean-up each week. We all like kiddushes and we all make plans for lunch after shul so please be respectful of your fellow congregants by helping out during your assigned month if you are in shul. We also ask that you please watch your children during Kiddush to the extent possible, and to place their finished items in the garbage cans provided.
February: Rose, Rothstein, Rubenstein, Ryp, Sarue

For more information on anything Kiddush related, please contact Holly Weiss at kiddush@arzeidarom.org.
