Hello Firstname

Wednesday 28 August
Next Wednesday it's the turn of four brave BPS members to show us what they've been up to recently, these are: Mike Bews, Bruce Gibbs, Matt de-Beger, and Beryl Heaton. As they say on the best of TV shows, these are in no particular order, but below are a few words from each speaker and a snap from what we can expect:

Mike Bews: Like a lot of members I was born, in the words of the great Lemon, whilst the Nasties were booing us. From then until I was 10 or 11 I did not touch a camera until my first Box Brownie and that was the start of the fun. My Father insisted that I develop and contact print any photos I took, quite fun as a kid. The brownie came to a sad end during aerial photography experiments.
Said Brownie was strapped to an ex WW2 box kite and the shutter was released using a reel of my mother's cotton. It worked quite well for a while but the photos were random. The next attempt was not good, the camera parted company with the kite and hit the ground with a bang. Since then I have not attempted aerial photography but am still thinking about a drone. I have moved on slightly and being a petrolhead have photographed motor sports, more recently I have enjoyed insect photography so you will be able to see how far I have progressed or regressed as the case may be.
Bruce Gibbs: I have been taking photographs for many years. I did some dark room work but when I discovered transparencies in the mid 1960s I became very lazy and only took slides. I belonged to BPS many years ago but resigned when I got married and bought a house and garden, this took up much of my limited energy. I later joined Downend Camera Club, then transferred to Lincombe Barn Camera Club where I officiated as jack of all
trades being secretary, treasurer, competition secretary, programme secretary etc. As the club grew, I was able to delegate some of these duties and eventually, a year ago, relinquished my last task. That is when I joined BPS again. I could not be in both clubs as they meet on the same evening of the week. I also belong to Kingswood Photographic Society. Since I went digital I have been inspired by the possibilities opened to me by photoshop and have been helped greatly by various members of BPS to improve my work
Matt de Beger: Talking about some of the things I have ventured into in the last 12-18 months or so. These are some things I wouldn’t have even thought about trying before attending our photography course and showcasing some images of the things I have ventured into which is very much different to the kind of photography I used to take beforehand
Beryl Heaton: I am going to talk about Pembrokeshire, having visited the area on many occasions, it being my favourite holiday destination. I intend covering a few headings (briefly of course) These will include, coastline, sporting activities and history. Some natural history appears and a brief overview of a workshop we attended earlier in the year. I must add that I will be aided by my glamorous assistant. I need him alongside for technical help.

Please support these brave souls as they are probably not used to standing before a crowd of baying camera club members. If past years are anything to go by, as Barry would put it, we are in for a cracking evening!

BTW, who ever thought that the word "glamorous" could be used to describe Beryl's trusty sidekick, Danny!

Downloads
Read the latest edition of Photography News here. This edition carries a report on the London Salon which includes a picture by Sue O'Connell

Download the latest edition (236) of PAGB eNews by clicking here, there is also a 236-Extra which starts with the following text:

It is scary for me to think that I have had the privilege of chairing the PAGB Awards for Photographic Merit 50 times, over more than two decades. I have seen many wonderful photographs at all three levels but there are some that stick in your mind forever.  Once seen, never forgotten!
I have collected a few of these here into this “e-news exhibition”. There are more that I would like to have added but I don’t have the files – especially from the early days before PDI. There are many others that I remember, and I apologise if I haven’t included your favourite. Some of these pictures will be familiar to you, some may not.

Included in this collection of images is one by our own Derwood Pamphilon called Poise which is shown below:
