Projected Image Competition - Round 1
|
Some of you may have noticed in last week's issue that the points totals in the PDI League Table were totalled incorrectly, which just goes to show that even the greatest of us can have an off day. Below you will find the correct (hopefully) League Table. My apologies for the distress this may have caused and would add that counselling is available for those people affected by this c**k up!

Macro Photography Workshop
|
Wildarena, in conjunction with Calumet (Bristol) are holding Macro Introduction Sessions on 13 October at Calumet's Bristol branch. The following is from their website:
This is a great way of getting started with this fascinating area of photography. The half-day sessions will begin with an introductory presentation that aims to cover the basic questions and difficulties surrounding macro photography. We will cover a variety of topics including, the choice & use of macro lenses, keeping things in focus & the creative use of depth-of-field, managing movement in the images with shutter speeds and the correct use of other related accessories. We will then move onto a ‘hands-on’ practical demonstration of techniques where guests will have the chance to try and capture their own images of some great close-up subjects brought along especially for the day. We will usually not only have some flowers and plants but also some fascinating smaller creatures like Stick Insects, Praying Mantis, Geckos and Tree Frogs. These subjects will be available to photograph with a choice of either continuous light and flash light, which Wild Arena will bring along and demonstrate. The sessions are ideally suited to customers using D-SLR cameras and Wild Arena have Canon and Nikon fit macro lenses to try out on the day if you do not already own one. With small group sizes of a maximum of 8 delegates and the convenient and comfortable setting of photography stores, these days are great value for those photographers wishing to develop their skills into macro and close-up.
The cost is £69 per person and bookings can be made by following this link.

National Geographic Travellers' Photography Competition - 2016
|
National Geographic Traveller’s Photography Competition 2016 is now open for entries. Widely recognised by professionals and amateurs from across the UK, the prestigious photography competition aims to find the best new talent and to send the winners on a photographic commission for National Geographic Traveller — destinations include Tanzania, Vietnam and Iceland. Selected entrants will also be included as part of a global press and media campaign across the National Geographic Traveller website and exhibited at theprintspace in London, in March 2016, gaining major exposure to the creative industry. theprintspace.co.uk Pat Riddell, editor of National Geographic Traveller (UK), said: “We’re thrilled to launch our photography competition for the fifth year running. Each year the standard of entries exceeds our expectations and puts the spotlight on the shortlist, whether they’re professional or amateur. Last year’s grand prize winner, Alecsandra Raluca Dragoi, has just returned from a photographic commission for us in Kenya’s Masai Maria. This year we have a whole host of commissions up for grabs, from Tanzania and Vietnam to Italy, Iceland and Abu Dhabi. And having included our new categories of video, portfolio and mobile, we’re expecting this year’s competition to be our most exciting yet.” The independent judging panel consists of Carol Enquist, National Geographic’s photo editor, Alastair Jolly, professional photographer and European brand ambassador for SmugMug, and Steve Davey, professional photographer, writer and tutor. National Geographic Traveller’s art editor Chris Hudson will devise the shortlist and will have the final decision.
