Proverbs 30:26 Coneys are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in the crags;

THE CONEY: A LESSON IN FINDING THE RIGHT REFUGE

The coney (sometimes called the rock badger), is found today primarily in Africa and Palestine. It is a small animal that resembles a guinea pig in outward appearance. It is also a common animal that many would not give a second look. Surely it would not be considered by the casual observer to be one of the more "important" members of the animal kingdom.

Yet the Bible takes note of the fact that these creatures "make their home in the crags." These animals love to climb into the mountainous regions. In Cape Town, South Africa they bask in the sun and forage for food on Table Mountain. They are small, yet when it comes to choosing their dwelling places, they are very wise. Up in the rocks they are sheltered from wind and storms.

We are wise to find our refuge in the Rock too. Namely, in the Rock of Jesus Christ. He is our refuge from the storms and troubles of life. Although we are creatures of little power, our hiding place in Christ is strong and secure. When the devil attacks us with temptation and accusation, we can find safety in the Lord's forgiveness won for us at the cross. When uncertainty or sorrow oppresses, we can shelter in Christ's promise that He will be with us always.

A good place of refuge is important. What a blessing it is that we have safety and security in the Son of God, the Rock that none can move!
