Looking out the window we see spring has come to our region, finally! In the weeks to
come many classic car enthusiast will fire up their beloved classic for the first drive again. Last Saturday I took my Triumph TR6 for the first drive through the countryside, it was fantastic to hear and feel the '6' again! Before starting the engine I followed some good advice from our specialist Piet Mozes. During the long period of garaging a classic car in the winter, all engine oil sips down into the sump. Starting from cold after a few months the engine lacks lubrication resulting in higher wear of surfaces and bearings. To lubricate the engine before a cold start after the winter you can follow this procedure: 1. check the oil level and top up if necessary. 2. Disconnect the power lead between the ignition coil and the distributor. 3. Operate the starter engine until the oil gauge reads 'pressure' or until the engine starts to revolve slower under oil pressure (this may take a minute). 4. The engine is lubricated and under oil pressure, connect the power lead again 5. Start the engine. Of course this will only work with a healthy battery. We assume you garage your classic over winter with the battery connected to a charging device. Before driving off check all the cars functions and inflate the tires to the recommended pressure. The car has been mechanically serviced and maintained by a Dutch classic Alfa Romeo specialist. This firm exchanged the 1300 engine by a fresh overhauled 1750 engine in the year 2006. The car has driven 25.000 kilometres ever since. This Alfa Romeo is a true driver car with some signs of use and age. The car is in good all over condition (mechanics and interior excellent).
