Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 21 April

Next Wednesday, 21 April, is Round 4 of the (Not the) Print Competition.

This was due to have been judged by Mike Birbeck, who unfortunately died recently and our own Pete McCloskey, FRPS has stepped into the breach - many thanks.

Pete has a wealth of judging experience, both National and International, so we can expect an excellent evening of critique and constructive advice.

Annual Competition
THE ANNUAL COMPETITION – ALL entries to be received by 28 April

Just a reminder that the Annual DPI and Print competitions are combined this year into a single DPI competition which will be judged by Johnnie Rogers ARPS DPAGB AWPF AFIAP. The original programme has the date for DPI entry as Wednesday 28 April. This is now the closing date for ALL entries.

The rules for the competition are as for the Annual DPI competition and are to be found in the competition rules link on the website. There is a separate Nature section to this annual competition which is open to all Club, Intermediate and Advanced members. Members may enter a total of 4 images to the competition, across their particular Open section and the Nature section. Entries for the Nature section must be clearly identified. Note also that the judge is asked to select the best Travel, People, Action, Landscape and Monochrome pictures from the whole entry (i.e. all levels).

In limiting entries to 4 per member we hope to reduce the need for any images to be culled. The judge will comment on the images across two evenings, 19 May and 9 June. Exactly what will be presented on each evening will depend, in part, on the number of entries to each section of the competition.

General "competition rules and info" can be found in the Members' Portal of the BPS website - see foot of this newsletter for login details.

RPS Distinction or a PAGB Award?

The RPS and PAGB are jointly running a very special event to look at both awards.

If you have a body of work ready, or you are preparing one, which of the two options is best for you? Or perhaps you could try for both?

This event will help you to decide by looking at the following:
  • The criteria for each award and what you need to do to become successful.
  • The application process and how to apply.
  • Successful submissions at all levels to show the standard required.
You will have the opportunity to ask questions of the advisors and find out which is the best way forward for you.

Date: 8 May
Time: 10am

This event is free, but we would recommend booking early as places are limited. Book online HERE

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Well done to Derwood Pamphilon for his recent international successes which were:
  • Lisboa, Portugal - 5 acceptances, including a Salon Silver medal
  • MNE-PBK Circuit, Montenegro - 10 acceptances, including 3 HMs

A Quiet Smoke - Silver Medal, Lisboa

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Make Money For BPS Every Time You Shop On Amazon!
Now we're all still in lockdown, the thought of on-line shopping must be looming large in many members' minds. It's worth remembering that if you so wish, each and every one of you can support BPS with every purchase you make on Amazon by using Amazon Smile. Click on the link below – then it’s self-explanatory.
Shopping using Smile is no different to your normal Amazon shopping and costs you nothing, it's just that you need to tell it that you wish to use Smile and then we get some pennies!

For Sale
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include it in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).

Photographic Acronyms
For those of you who aren't sure what MPAGB, EFIAP/s and many more such seemingly random collections of letters mean, just click here to see the list.
