John 14:4-5 And where I go you know, and the way you know. Thomas said to Him, Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?
JESUS SHOWS HIMSELF TO BE THE WAY TO HEAVEN
The heart is troubled when we feel lost. We listen to this dialogue between Jesus and Thomas: "And where I go you know, and the way you know." Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?" (John 14:4-5). Thomas asked the basic question that grips humanity. He phrased it in a different way, but the basic question is this: How do I get to heaven? You'll find many answers to that question, but only one correct one.
In non-Christian religions there are a variety of answers. In Islam you could become a suicide bomber for a quick trip to paradise. In Hinduism it is a much longer trip and has to do with karma and reincarnation. No one will never get to heaven with that sort of belief system.
Even in Christianity the devil has introduced side roads that will get a person lost. He has introduced insidious lies that take the focus off of Jesus and onto the person. People may think that the road to heaven involves Jesus plus their works, or Jesus plus a decision of theirs to embrace Him. Those are dangerous detours to be on. Such thinking will cause a troubled heart, because even though a person may put on a false sense of bravado, if you are depending even in the tiniest way upon yourself for salvation, you will have doubt. Each one of us is altogether too aware of our own imperfections.
Jesus cures this troubled heart with these words: "I am the way the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). There is only one path to heaven. There are no shortcuts. There are no alternate routes. There is only Jesus because only Jesus can forgive your sin. Only Jesus has paid the price for your admission ticket into paradise.
It is inevitable that you will at certain times have a troubled heart. Don't look inward for the cure. Look to Jesus -- the Way, the Truth, and the Life -- and your troubled heart will be cured.
