Psalm 12:1 Help, LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men.

HELP

The other day at a local medical clinic I noticed hanging on the wall a picture of a sunrise and some mountains along with a Bible passage about God's great creation. It struck me as encouraging that in a field which is so dominated by humanism and unbelief there are still doctors and nurses who believe that we are not just blobs of matter created by random chance.

But often it feels like the godly are no more, doesn't it? We go to work and the break-room conversation turns vulgar. We snap on the television or radio and cannot seem to escape the godlessness. The newspaper opinion pages favor the atheist and the rebel calling it "critical thinking". What is there to do? Have the faithful vanished? Should we plod along with our heads hanging as though all is lost and God can no longer work good on the earth?

Turn instead to the LORD with the simple prayer: "Help." And pray it with the confidence of King David who said, "O LORD, you will keep us safe and protect us from such people forever" (Ps 12:7). The godly He will not forsake.

When you feel as though the faithful have vanished from the earth, turn to the faithfulness of God your Father who loved you and gave His own Son into death so you could gain the glory of heaven. Your God will not vanish from the earth, and as long as He endures with His precious message of salvation, neither will faithful people.
