Proverbs 18:22 He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.
LESSONS FOR THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR ... FROM PROVERBS (5)
There was a watch commercial that aired a couple of years ago that portrayed the meeting of a future husband and wife as a matter of timing or luck. The commercial explained that the couple was destined to meet and fall in love, but alas, one of them wasn't wearing the right watch and their timing being off, just missed that all important first chance meeting. Thus, no love and no marriage.
When our young people are old enough to date, they should not think that finding a spouse is a matter of timing and luck, or even just a matter of finding a girl or boy to their liking. They ought to pray that the LORD would lead them to find the one whom He has chosen for them. For you see, Christian marriage is not a matter of chance. It may seem like finding someone in the dark to us, but in the eyes of the LORD, it was only a matter of bringing the two together. After all, the Scripture says that He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD. It doesn't say, "He catches a lucky break" but "obtains favor from the LORD."
For contrary to popular belief, marriage is a good thing, a great blessing from the LORD. This is especially evident when both husband and wife hold Jesus Christ, not feelings or emotion, as the one foundation upon whom their marriage is built and kept strong. Those who know Christ as the foundation of their marriage also know that through marriage God blesses both man and woman with a lifelong partner and friend. They also know that the LORD may or may not bless their marriage by providing children -- and they leave it up to Him.
