Stitchin', Bitchin' and Showing Off Your Talents 22nd March 2007

Warm and roaring greetings to you People of the Knit

We hope that this newsletter finds you well, wrapped up against the crazy winds, and as chuffed as we are to have been even a tiny part of the fabulous London Lion Bescarfing Event.

This week’s meeting was on the pirate-flavoured Queen Mary and saw many a tot of rum drunk to warm the cockles (okay, maybe a beer or glass of wine), much knitting on the decks, no knitted eye patches at all, and the occasional shocked expression as a speedboat went by and we all remembered we were on a boat.

Lion Scarf Tales

In Lion Scarf news fantastically huge success! We arrived in the Square at 10am and at 12.30 we left with four grateful lions roaring their farewells. It was sooo much fun, the Lion Ladies swarmed about the fascinated crowds letting them know what the madness was about and collecting for Cancer Research, and our Lion Lads did us proud scaling the beasts to help Laura and myself bescarf them.

Cameras flashed, the press snapped away, the lions got toasty, and a TV crew even arrived to film the chaos. We saw so many knitting comrades beneath the lions, so thanks to everyone for coming and we hope you were able to pick out your part from in one of the many photos.

Sorry if any of you missed it, but we have plans to maybe exhibit the scarves and their stories somewhere in the depths of London, before they are won by four lucky sponsors (if anyone knows anyone who might be able to help us out with that one we would be very grateful). Also let us know if our warm lions pop up in any press (they never tell us!)

The sponsor site and draw will stay open for a little while, so anyone can still donate to the Lion Scarf Fund and win a piece of London history (or some of the fab broomstick needles and yarn from the pics).

Also we will keep updating the blog with Lion Scarf comings and goings, of course.

Details of the next meeting:

Next meeting finds us lah-dee-dahhing it up in the Long Bar of the National Theatre. According to internet sources there will be a South American folk and Afro-Colombian trio rocking out (acoustically, of course) just across from the bar. On top of all that we have been promised a visit from Barwell Alpacas' leading lady, with some of her fabulous yarn. So you can soak up a bit of culture, laugh in a slightly horsey manner, and shock people with your knitting-in-public bravado.

Stitch and Showing ‘em What You’re Made Of (and what you made)

So you finish a project, you wear it every day for a year, you print flyers featuring a photo of it and hand them out at your local supermarket, you get your loved one to have a tattoo of it somewhere prominent. But that just isn’t enough! You want to show the world the fabulousness you have created you’re your sticks and string!

Well, now you can show the entire crafty world of the internet:

Craftster.com Forum – Log in and show the world. They have a knitting section (featuring knitalongs, where you can say “I made this better than you. So ner!”, loads of other crafty threads, and even an S&B thread for those of you who have completed something from that funky little tome and want to share.

Stitch and As If You Didn’t Have Enough Free Patterns and Knitting Info

Daily Knitter – sign up to them for free patterns (those two magic words), yarn reviews (genius idea), and loads of knitting stuff and things.

Wendy Knits - Wendy Knits. She really does. And she is really good at it too. A site with 1000000000 (that is an approximate number) patterns and loads of links to knitting net goodness.

That is all we are going to unravel for you this week. Let us know if you dig up any internet knitting treasure, see you at the Stitch and Craft show at Olympia this weekend if you are coming along, and feel free to drop in on the message board if you feel alone in a knittingless void of terrorrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Thanks again for all your Lion Scarf support. New People of the Knit, welcome to the mailing list. We hope you can make it to a meeting soon.

Happy knitting and don't forget where you put your scissors...
