2 Corinthians 1:20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God.
THE ANSWER IS "YES"
My daughter will often come into my office and say, "Dada, you want to play with me now?" If I cannot come right away, I give her a time when I will be there. "After lunch" or "after supper" there is usually time set aside for play. It happens once in awhile, though, that when play time comes, something else has made it impossible for me to keep the appointment. In those cases, I have to change my plans with her.
The Apostle Paul had to change his plans sometimes too. He had planned to visit the congregation at Corinth twice, once on his way to Macedonia and once on his way back. His plans changed, but in writing to them he wanted to make it clear that he had been serious about his original proposition. He didn't make his promises to them lightly or carelessly.
He wrote further that God does not make His promises lightly or carelessly either. God doesn't say, "Maybe yes" or "Maybe no" when He tells us His most important plans. When He promises to forgive all our sins, the plans don't change. The answer is "yes" in Christ Jesus. When He promises to give us life in the eternal mansions of heaven, the plans don't change. The answer is "yes" because of Christ Jesus. When He promises to love us with an everlasting love, the plans don't change. The answer is "yes" -- at the cross of Christ Jesus.
No matter how many promises God has made to you, nothing has been promised without His careful thought, intent, and ability to carry out the promise. With confidence you can rely on Him! To which we say, "Amen!"
