Wednesday 26 February

Next week we welcome Jonathan Genevaux to BPS. Jonathan is a professional landscape photographer with a specialism in waterscapes.
For the past 3 years, he has been working on a project photographing the waterscapes of the UK, from the intimate Scottish lochs to the cliff tops of Cornwall and Wales, as well as photographing waterscapes of his home region in South-West France

In this talk, he is sharing his best tips and techniques for landscape and waterscape photography from having a raw idea to editing the final images. Jonathan will share and explain his entire process for preparing and planning the shoot using maps and online tools, understanding how the light plays with the landscape, analysing the weather forecast, finding a composition, and what camera settings and gear he uses.
Two most valuable hours for anyone interested in improving their landscape photography.

Print Competition - Round 3
Our venerable Print Competition Secretary is away at present and missed the 3rd Round of the Print Competition, held last Wednesday. The results will therefore be published in next week's issue of the newsletter.

Amateur Photographer of the Year (APOY)
BPS finished a commendable but disappointing 7th behind Mid-Somerset CC (=4th), Launceston (3rd), Truro (2nd) and Plymouth (1st).

Six members contributed to our total of 230 points: Steve Field, Keith Wood, Mel Seal, Mike Hall, Mike Martin with Rachel Domleo picking up over half of our points and finishing equal 16th on the individual leaderboard – well done.

Plymouth won by a huge margin with 620 points by virtue of having 17 members contributing, especially when each person gains 10 points for simply being shortlisted.

The 2025 competition will open soon – let’s see if we can beat this with more members participating – it costs nothing for your first entry each month.

Details will appear in Amateur Photographer, but hopefully I will be able to get the details in the newsletter for each round - Ed

As per previous newsletter, this was broadcast live via Zoom on Saturday. A couple of members tuned in to see our fantastic successes across the five categories (4 images in each, plus a further 4 as make-ups for sitting out round 1 whilst we hosted that judging). Not sure where that will place us in the year to date rankings yet.
