Exodus 17:12 When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up -- one on one side, one on the other -- so that his hands remained steady until sunset.
AN AARON-HELPER
Joshua was on the battlefield. Moses was holding God's name before the people. There was still one more task for the servants of the LORD to do. This time it was Aaron and Hur who became part of the activity on top of the hill.
Moses was getting tired and could not hold his hands up by himself, so Aaron and Hur took a stone and had Moses sit on it. Having gotten him this makeshift chair, they stood on either side of him and held up his hands until sunset when Joshua had defeated the Amalekites. Aaron and Hur didn't do the work of Joshua or the work of Moses, but their work was important nonetheless. Moses couldn't do his job without it.
Pastors, teachers, and other public ministers cannot do their jobs alone either. They need help, encouragement, and love from good Christian friends so they do not become weary or despair at their tasks which can often seem long and difficult. The congregation at Philippi once sent a man named Epaphroditus to the Apostle Paul to give him encouragement and aid while he was in prison. Paul was very thankful for this special help.
Perhaps you will have an opportunity to serve the LORD the way Aaron did. You too can "hold up the hands" of Christ's called servants. Pray for your pastors and teachers. Be kind to them. Encourage them when times are hard, and love them, for in Jesus God so loved the world.
