Started in 2013, Dinner & A Mixtape has been held in New York, Hong Kong, Toronto, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Manila, Philippines, and all over the United States.

The idea is simple. Food and Music are similar art forms that go hand in hand. The ability to take sound and manipulate it into a beautiful song is very similar to how a chef takes ingredients and turns a plate of food into a work of art. DJ Neil Amstrong’s interest in both led him to create the concept of joining the two together into one event. Thus was born, Dinner & A Mixtape – a play on that classic American “date night”. Instead of Dinner and A Movie, you get dinner and great music.

The soundtrack is provided by a new installment in DJ Neil Armstrong’s mixtape library. Part eating experience, part listening session: the food nourishes the body, and music feeds the soul. Attendees also go home with a copy of DJ Neil Armstrong’s latest on cassette USB,  giving diners the opportunity to bring part of the experience home with them. For this installment, the featured mixtape is Still Nonstop – an all live vinyl set, exploring the the musical DNA of the Hip Hop songs that we love.

In the past Dinner & Mixtape has collaborated with great chef’s like Roy Choi of Locol and Dale Talde of Top Chef Fame. This time around we bringing good eats and beats to RYE in Salt Lake City.

From the website :

RYE is Salt Lake City’s answer to early-morning eats and afternoon delights. Craft cocktails, tasty brews, updated classics–all locally sourced and crafted with love.

At RYE, classic American favorites are given a modern, Asian-fusion twist, and executed to perfection by our red-letter kitchen crew, lead by Executive Chef Andrew Lund. We also feature craft cocktail creations by mixologist Ryan Manning, and delectably in-house-made desserts by a proficient team of pastry pros.

We know first-hand that buying local is best. That’s why we peddle products from a few of our friends. We serve meats from Snake River Farms, Ballard Hog Farm, and Canyon Meadows Ranch, bread from Eva’s Bakery, produce from New Roots, chocolate from Solstice, coffee from Publik, La Barba, and Blue Copper, and brews from High West, Squatters, and Wasatch Brewery. And that’s just a taste.

For this Dinner & A Mixtape , A 3 course meal will be served, along with a cocktail. All attendees will also bring home a copy of STILL Nonstop on Cassette USB, as well as the opportunity to Download DJ Neil Armstrong’s COMPLETE MIXTAPE LIBRARY FOR FREE.(over $150 dollar value alone)

Tickets for the event can be purchased for $50 inclusive here :

Download MJ X Weeknd "I Feel It coming" Remix

rsz_the-weeknd-human-nature

A few weeks ago I was messing around and came up with this remix. I Posted up the practice session on Facebook Live. Some folks asked me to record it for real. Here it is .

I think unfortunately there is a divide in urban music between the old and the new. This remix is an attempt to bridge that gap . The weeknd meets Michael Jackson on this remix of "Feel it Coming" w/ "Human Nature". Download it here - http://www.djneilarmstrong.com/mjxtheweeknd

The MyMotto Web Series on MyxTV

Recently I got to do an episode for Myxtv’s My Motto webseries, which explores – Inspiring Asians Americans who have found success in unorthodox careers despite the struggles of fulfilling the standard expectations a first generation Millennial is bound to face in America.

Peep the episode below, leave a like or a comment to validate me dammit!

DJ Neil Armstrong decided to ditch a monotonous nine to five for a fruitful career in music that lead him to travel the world and tour with the Jay Z for a few years. Neil’s famous mixtapes have gotten recognition from publications such as Rolling Stone, Vibe,MTV.com, Theme, URB and Complex. Now a days, Neil can be found rescuing puppies and paring mixtapes with food cooked by some of the best chefs around the country.

The New York Said Podcast w/ Yours truly

I had the opportunity to join Amon focus on his New York Said Podcast , waxing poetic on the vagaries of life. Probably one of my more spontaneous and honest interviews, between two native new yorkers about everything and nothing at all. Enjoy!
