Wednesday 22 March

Our speaker next week is Laura Pearce from Yeovil. Laura is a beauty, fashion and portrait photographer.

After many years as an artist, she turned to photography. In 2011 she was awarded the LRPS from the Royal Photographic Society and has had some success in International Salons. Her love is for dramatic images, preferring the mood and emotion, but headshots and portraits still captivate her and she keeps coming back to them.
She has also had a few images published in magazines. As a creative person, she likes to come up with ideas and concepts for photographic projects and loves meeting and working with new people and aiming to get the best out of them. A couple of new models that Laura has worked with recently have gone on to be runners up in beauty pageants.
A few of Laura's images to whet your appetite:

Distinctions & General Advice Workshop
‘The best laid plans’!

Sadly the original plan of running these advice workshops in February or March this year has unfortunately been disrupted by the work being done on this year’s Salon. With the creation of the Salon show, results and Catalogue having to take precedence. We are still very keen to run these workshops but realistically it will be Mid-April before we can begin.

We are sorry for the delay as I know that a number of you have shown interest in attending the workshops, bear with us they will happen. More information will be supplied closer to the date of the first workshop.

Thanks for your patience.
Ralph

Amateur Photographer - APOY 2023
Amateur Photographer of the Year (APOY)

As Ralph has mentioned, let’s try and take the APOY Club award (and cash) from Launceston CC who have won in the last two years.

You may recall in 2021, Mike Martin came fourth overall, and projected BPS to second place in the club ranking, behind the combined efforts of 11 photographers from Launceston. Competition in 2022 was stiffer but we still managed 6th place overall, following the efforts of Steve Field, Colin Dixon and Mike.

If more members participate, we should be well placed to do well. So, PLEASE join in.

About APOY
  • Comprised 10 rounds on different topics (Round 1 has closed)
  • Subscribers to the magazine receive one free entry per month
  • (expert tip:  if you use the free Libby App and register with your library on-line, you can read the magazine absolutely free AND pick up the Free Entry Code published in the magazine without paying a penny!!! – Round 2, Travel free entry code is on the attached)
  • if you want to boost your chances, you can buy blocks of additional entries, up to four per competition.
  • Winners in each round win MPB vouchers and receive points towards their individual ranking AND their Club Ranking (PROVIDED you have associated yourself with BPS during the initial registration process).
  • Entries are made on-line
Expert tip: Enter high resolution JPGs – the winning images are used to grace the pages of the magazine each month in the winners gallery. They assume that the submitted image is the highest resolution available, and since they need images that are good enough/large enough to print, there is a risk that photos that are judged less favourably.

More details can be found on the attached or on Photocrowd where the competition is hosted or ask Mike/Steve.
