Subject: | Unique Wireless and Foundation Fieldbus Applications at Escondida Copper Mine
When Escondida, the largest Copper Mine in the world, asked ABB to participate in the Sulphide Leach project, they had 2 unique automation requirements for managing various parts of their process. First, in the Leach Process, they needed to have a "mobile" control solution mobile so they could move from one section of the Leach Pad to another as the Ore was extracted. Second, the Leach Plant was separated from the Electrowinning Plant via a 15 km pipeline that required Leach Detection over the length of the pipeline without having any external power feed to each monitoring station. This presentation will review the unique solutions which were applied to achieve the desired results.
