Hi Goose People!
OPPORTUNITY TO SING/PLAY AT CECIL SHARP HOUSE!
OK this isn't going to apply to many of you, particularly as we are looking for people who are based outside Greater London, but we are trying to spread the word as widely as possible.
If you know of suitable people who may like to apply, please could you let them know in case they have not heard about it via other routes, thanks!
FOLK 21
CALLING ALL FOLK SONG/MUSIC ARTISTS
LONDON REGIONAL SHOWCASE CONCERT
ARTIST APPLICATIONS OPEN
All folk song/music artists are invited to submit an application to perform a thirty minute acoustic set at the Folk21 London Regional Day, hosted by Folk21 and the English Folk Dance and Song Society at Cecil Sharp House, London on Saturday 23rd February 2013. The day will conclude with an evening Showcase concert, headlined by Robb Johnson, which will provide an opportunity for artists to perform in front of both folk club/venue organisers and a public audience from Greater London.
To be eligible you must be based outside the Greater London region and to be already performing at folk venues.
To apply please email showcase@folk4all.net with a dated list of six recent or future folk club gigs (or equivalent) as well as a link to your website and links to YouTube or other video/audio clips, if available.
We hope that by asking artists to apply outside of their own regions it will help them to expand their reach and promote their work to areas where they may not be established or well known, equally providing a chance for London’s club organisers/promoters/audience present to hear artists that they may currently be unfamiliar with.
Applications will be accepted until Friday 10th August. Please note that any applications received after this date will not be considered.
On behalf of Folk21:
George Papavgeris (Herga)
Sue Whitehead & Nygel Packett (The Goose Is Out!)
Archie Macaulay (Uxbridge folk club)
Can You Help at the Next Singaround on Sunday 12 August?
Nygel aka FlapJackDavey is DJing at the Big Chill Bar near Brick Lane that afternoon, and we're not sure whether we'll make it back in time to get things set up for 7.30pm when the singaround starts.
If you have been to the singaround before and would be willing to get there about 7pm to arrange the tables and chairs as we have them for that evening, and possibly to just start things off, we would really appreciate it! We'll buy you a pint when we arrive!
If you can help, please could you email us at contactthegoose@gmail.com - thanks!
Change of Date and Venue for Jim Causley gig
This gig was originally booked at the Ivy House, which - although the news is looking more positive - we cannot assume will have reopened by October.
We haven't been able to find a suitable alternative, and we have therefore decided to hold the evening at DHFC. We have had to change the date to the day before the original date, so it will now be held on FRIDAY 26 OCTOBER.
The support acts will be Suntrap and Blue Rose Code, and the ticket prices will be our usual DHFC prices, which are £11/7 advance and £12/8 on the door.
Tickets will shortly be back on sale at
but they aren't yet available at the time of sending this newsletter.
Future Goose Bookings
We have just started looking at bookings for DHFC for 2013 (we already have our Mag evenings fully booked for next year).
The bad news is, we can't get June Tabor (who requires a "good quality concert grand piano" everywhere she sings) and nor can we get Richard Thompson (who - according to his manager - will only play UK venues with a capacity of at least 1200 ).
Oh well! The good news is that we have the ball rolling on several other excellent people. If there is somebody who you would particularly like us to bring, or bring back, to DHFC, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing contactthegoose@gmail.com - thanks!
We can't promise, but if we like them too, we will try!
OK That's All For Now!
We hope to see you somewhere soon!
Love Nyge and Sue aka The Goose xxx
