Colossians 3:9-10 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.
LIFE WITH GOD IS ENTIRELY NEW
How do we become truly new? No matter what we do to ourselves we're still the same. You can get a different haircut, gain or lose weight, go to a tanning booth, but you're still the same person. You can get a heart transplant, but you're still the same you. You cannot change the condition of your soul. When it comes to your spiritual nature your original equipment is not just old, it is dead. That fact cannot be changed by you or any other human being.
It is essential to know how you are made new. In Colossians 2 the apostle Paul speaks of being buried with Christ by baptism into death. In Colossians 3:1 we are told about being raised with Christ. When you are connected to Jesus by faith your soul experiences what is not otherwise possible. In this spiritual connection to Jesus you died to sin through His crucifixion and you are given spiritual life through His resurrection. What no human being could accomplish Jesus as true Man and true God made happen. He has given you a new life.
This newness is not just shining up the old man. The new man is completely the opposite of the old, and is genuinely new. Only Jesus can do such a wonder.
