BPS Website: Members' Area - Don't Panic!

Members who use Firefox as their browser may have received an unexpected message when trying to log into the Members' Area of the BPS website. The message, shown on the left, implies that the connection you are about to make is not secure and that your system could be compromised. I am assured by the company that hosts our website that this is just Firefox, following the latest update, being a little over zealous in trying to protect your computer. The updated browser warns whenever you login on a website that does not use SSL certificates. However, there is no need for certificates as our website does not hold sensitive info such as card details etc. So you can rest easy and ignore the warnings.

Viveca Koh Workshop - Only Two Places Left
|
Following the recent visit to BPS by Viveca Koh, there was mention of a workshop later in the year. This is now definite (subject to numbers) and will take place a little later in the year, probably late Summer/early Autumn. The workshop will be a one day event and will focus on Using Layers and Textures in Photoshop; the cost will be £75 per head.
There are only two places left, so if you are interested and you don't want to be disappointed, please contact Derwood Pamphilon as soon as you can - either by email: derwood1004@gmail.com or phone: 07545 848919. You can read full details of the workshop by following this link. |
WCPF Members' Exhibition at Unit 13
|
This weekend the WCPF Annual Members' Exhibition is being shown at the BPS clubrooms between 10am and 4.30pm (both days). This is your chance to see some of the best images, both print and projected, in the South West. |
Some of the newer members may not be aware of the fact that we have a library of photographic books and indeed, a Librarian - Mike Bigger. The library is kept upstairs just inside the store adjacent to the Other Room. A full list of the books in the library can be seen by clicking on this link, if you'd like to borrow any of these books, just see Mike at any Wednesday meeting and he'll be only too pleased to open the library for you. |

ITS NOT PARTICULARLY EASY FINDING "DATES FOR YOUR DIARY", SO I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF MEMBERS COULD LET ME KNOW OF ANY EVENTS, EXHIBITIONS OR PICTURE LOCATIONS THAT THEY THINK WOULD BE OF INTEREST. DATES AND WEB LINKS WOULD HELP.

Three members of BPS have excelled themselves in the international exhibition world by gaining FIAP distinctions for international exhibition acceptances: Keith Wood and Sue O'Connell have both gained EFIAP/g and Barry Mead has gained EFIAP/d1 (see link in Photographic Acronyms below for explanation).
Staying on the international theme, John Hudson has recently become an Associate of Society of Photographers Singapore (ASPS), which required John to submit a panel of 16 prints, which is shown below (apologies for the quality, but I had to "lift" the image from the SPS website):

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers
of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't
include them all. So please only advise of awards or other
milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

For those of you who aren't sure what MPAGB, EFIAP/s and many more such seemingly random collections of letters mean, just click here to download the list. |
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk
The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, if they are wrong, please let Carol know. |
If you have anything you think other members would like to know about, such as exhibitions, special events etc. please let me know at newsletter@bristolphoto.org.uk
