Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 2 February

Next Wednesday we welcome Paul Berriff OBE; to Unit13, when he will present his talk Life Behind The Camera. Paul is an international award-winning documentary film maker and fine art photographer - a pioneer in factual reality documentary series in the UK and USA

This is what Paul says of his talk:
My talk starts with my early days from when I began at 12 years old with a camera to the present.
The first part of the presentation covers my stills work then I move onto my work behind the movie camera. This section is illustrated with video from many of my adventures including filming major disasters, escapes from death in a helicopter crash and been blown off an exploding volcano, working on the James Bond set and spending a year with the NASA astronauts. The final part features my close escape from death when both the Twin Towers collapsed onto me on 9/11. All these stories are illustrated with dramatic film. This presentation is probably very different from many of your other contributors, but it has been highly praised by many camera clubs around the UK

Salon Selection Weekend
Your Help Needed
This year’s Salon will be closing at the end of the month, and the final planning and setup of the selection weekend will be the next stage.

The selection runs from Friday, 11 to Sunday, 13 February with both digital and prints each day. To make it run smoothly there needs to be a team of people who can help out with aspects such as print handling, catering and ideally transporting the selectors to and from their hotel at the start and end of each day.

Thank you to those members who have already volunteered to help, but we would like more people who can share the tasks. It does not have to be every day, if you can make it for 1 or 2 that would be equally appreciated. There will be a setup/trial run needed for the print handling that will probably be in the week before the actual selection.

There is a plus side of course in that you get to see the images/prints as they are judged. This is good experience as you can get a view on the quality and type of images that do well, and of course it can reinforce the view that judges don’t know what they are talking about 😊

All help will be very appreciated, if you wish to do so then please email me chairman@bristolsalon.co.uk  and let me know your availability.

Here’s hoping
Ralph

Tea Break - Help Needed!
You have one last chance to save the weekly tea break.
Remember: No help = No tea break.

The following appeal for help appeared in issue 462 on 24 November, since when we have been totally underwhelmed by the response!

Vicky (Harrison), our hardworking Clubroom Steward, is looking for volunteers to help with the tea/coffee at half time on Wednesdays. If you can help, please can you put your name on the list which is pinned up just inside the door as you come into the Meeting Room.

Please remember, no helpers - no teabreak! You can't expect Vicky to do it all, every week, so come on, let's see the list filled by the end of next Wednesday's meeting!

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue

Items For Sale
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include it in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).

IMPORTANT: Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk

The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, please remember, if you don't tell us we can't possibly know!
