Big news: hot off the press is ANAR DANA's 2011 concert DVD.  This DVD icludes all thedances from last year's repertorie: Baluchi, Arab-Andalusian, Armenian, Turkish Spoon Dances, Classical Persian, Moroccan Sheikhat and Kurdish from the esemble (in many spectacular new costumes) and Rajasthani, Georgian, Sahraoui and Ottoman dance performances by me.  We have made an upscale, all cardboard eco wallet with fantastic photos of the show (no plastic, yeah!).  You can share the experice with us and support the ensemble by purchasing this DVD.  Please contact me with your location for retail as well as wholesale prices. mail@helene-eriksen.de
 
ANAR DANA Seattle is working hard for the upcoming recitals on June 15th & 16th as well as our own showcase at NW Folklife and at the Seattle Iranian Festival.  We have new choreographies and spectacular new costumes.  We also have a new ANAR DANA Seattle Facebook page with photos from all the previous years.  Please join us there and let us know what you think!  We would love to hear from you!  You can buy tickets for the recitals at Brown Paper Tickets.
 
Last year we received generous funding for ANAR DANA from Artists Trust.  This year we have no funding and to help with that gap we have launched a Kickstarter campagin.  PLEASE friends, help support us to do what we do: presenting traditional dance in an authentic way from a myriad of lesser known countries and cultures.  If you agree with us that this is important cultural and even political work in these times then help us carry on with that important work and donate a little or a lot so that we can continue to produce these high quality performances and share them not just with our Seattle audiences, but via DVD and youtube with all of you out there around the world.  Even a small donations add up and are so appreciated!  You can find all about it on our Kickstarter Page.

I've just returned to Seattle from 5 weeks in France, Turkey and Germany.  My annual
Music, Dance and Cultural Tour to Istanbul was a blast and I had such a nice group of enthusiastic people.  I've created a new Facebook Group for all the past and future years of this travel adventure so that we can share our experiences via photos and videos with each other and with all of you.   Please come join the group!  I can't wait to go back again next year.  The dates for next year are March 27-April 5, 2013.  Plan now and save up so you won't have to miss this great adventure again!  This is a really unique opportunity to profit from my 30 year love affair with this city, to see Istanbul at a deeper level, study dance with Roma dancer Reyhan Tuzsuz and masters of Turkish Folkdance, visit concerts and historic sites, eat amazing food, find special treasures in the bazaar and meet many of my musician and dancer friends in this intriguing city. 
 
I am also considering offering a TANGO TOUR to ISTANBUL in March next year.  Come visit a international hot-spot for tango at the Tango to Istanbul Festival and take advantage of my knowlege of Turkish culture as well!  Please contact me if you are interested so that I can gauge how many people might like to do this. 
 
My Bay Area ANAR DANA training project is off to a fantastic start.  In February we had our first session one day in San Francisco and one day in the South Bay to accomodated dancers coming from all over the Bay Area.  What a lovely group of women!!! 
I'm so excited that ANAR DANA is branching out.

My Silk Road Dance Training Project had its introductory weekend in Lyon in March.  We had musicians and dancers from different parts of France and Europe...as far away as Greece. What a great group!  The project itself begins full-force in September with a weeklong retreat in the French countryside.  We have two more long weekends in the fall and culminate the project in December with recitals in Lyon. This is an intensive project focusing on the dances and music of the Silk Road.  Most exciting is that I will be working with a dear friend and colleague Louis Soret, who will be conducting the musical part of the project...yes, you can join the dance section or the music section!!!

As you know I had a very successful tour to Argentina last January.  Now I will be returning to Buenos Aires in July and going to Santiago, Chile as well!  We are also planning for me to return in January 2013...perhaps with a weeklong retreat in the Argentine countryside.
