Psalm 107:8-9 Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.
HE SATISFIES THE SOUL
The Lord is certainly good to men in that He showers us with food and drink so that we have plenty to satisfy our bellies with. And for all of this we thank Him. But this isn't what the psalmist is speaking of here. Not the empty belly, but the longing soul and the hungry soul. Those souls that feel empty, like a part of themselves in missing. Those souls who long for forgiveness and an opportunity to start again. Those souls that feel like they just have no where to turn. When they turn to the Lord the Lord fills them. Through His word He fills them, and gives strength the weary, to the hungry soul. We thank Him for bread and water, but much more we thank Him for that which our spirit needs, forgiveness and spiritual rest.
