Fire Permits Required from 1 October 2005

Fire permits are required for open burning during the Bushfire Danger Period. The Bushfire Danger Period commences this weekend, running from 1 October to 31 March.

Permits are required in order to reduce the risk of burn-offs getting out of control and becoming major bushfires. The permit system informs fire authorities of exactly when and where landowners intend to burn so they can plan for emergencies.

  • you need a fire permit to burn off (available from your local RFS Brigade or Warringah-Pittwater Fire Control Centre)
  • notify your neighbours at least 24 hours before you light the fire
  • make sure someone is there all the time the fire is alight
  • observe all conditions of the permit
  • fire permits are suspended if a Total Fire Ban is declared

For further information, look at the Rural Fire Service website, www.rfs.nsw.gov.au, or call your local Brigade.
