Proverbs 16:9 A man's heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.

GOD'S DIRECTION

Being the One behind the controls of all creation, the LORD uses even the actions of unbelievers to accomplish what He wants. Sure, they make their own plans with their own hearts, but God directs their steps so that their actions serve His greater plan.

Just think about how the Roman roads that were designed to carry messages for Rome also carried the message of sins forgiven when Paul and the Apostles traveled them. While the unbeliever may be content to butt his head against God's will, the believer doesn't want to struggle against God's plan. Instead we want the plans of our hearts to be the same as God's.

We know what is in the heart of God, because God has revealed it to us in the Bible. The Bible is a window into the heart of God. In its pages we see His unquenchable love for us sinners. This love nailed His Son to our cross.

Which one of our hearts would have planned the way to God and found Him? None of them. Thanks be to God that the LORD has not only directed our steps to Him, but has also come into our hearts and made us whole in Jesus Christ.
