Hi Friends,
The second month of the New Year is upon us as we make our way through the Sun in Aquarius, the sign that represents the future and hopeful possibilities. This sign is known to break the rules and blaze its own path while doing so; thoughts, ideas, and behavior are unconventional with this zodiac sign. Uranus is the planet associated with Aquarius and this month, unpredictable Uranus will be very prominent towards the end of February; buckle up folks because it should be quite a cosmic adventure. As the third of three Air signs in the zodiac (mental and intellectual energy), Aquarius is the social, outward expression of our thoughts and ideas. This may be a big reason the sign of Aquarius is known to represent the cutting edge of technology, being the source of the latest and greatest the mind has to offer. Its energy can be volatile, its actions unexpected. Some Aquarians aren’t eager or willing to conform to society’s expectations – they want to stand out and make their presence known. We are certainly witnessing this these days with protests around the US.
February’s energy begins in high gear as last month’s New Moon in Aquarius has us focused on human rights, while Mars (competitive) entered its own sign of Aries and is ramping up the energy level even more. But wait it gets better, on February 3rd, loving Venus enters Aries as well suggesting that we open up our hearts as we make our way through these social transitions. When Venus is in the sign ruled by Mars, her male counterpart, she gains the energy to go out and get what she wants. Don't be surprised if you run into a lot of assertive women this month. They'll all be taking on more than they can really handle and be doing a lot of running around for other people, but they'll somehow find a way to enjoy themselves. On the personal side, Venus in Aries will easily excite us by the prospect of a new love or money making opportunity.
We’ll have a chance to review our relationships on February 6th as idealistic Jupiter retrogrades in partnership-oriented Libra.
The expansiveness of Jupiter begins to recede during the retrograde period which will last until June 9th. Jupiter retrograde is a regular cycle occurring every 13 months and lasting for about 4 months. Transiting Jupiter retrograde represents a time of philosophical or spiritual introspection and reflection. This time around it happens to be in the arena of relationships. What lessons did you learn from your past interactions? Were they good experiences or not so good experiences? If the lesson is not complete you may find yourself with people situations and events from the past that need resolution. By the time Jupiter goes direct; you should have come to terms with the relevant issues and be prepared for the next phase.
We can feel our feet come off the ground and our minds fly free on February 7th when Mercury enters Aquarius. As Mercury moves into the air sign of Aquarius he brings us into the realm of genius, at least for a little while. When the planet of thinking and reason meets up with the sign of invention, we can expect our ideas to shine with a certain zany brilliance. Don't discard them just because the old guard can't figure them out. They just may be diamonds in the rough.
This month the first set of the eclipses of 2017 will occur with the first one on February 10th. This lunation will be a Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse in the creative, fun-loving sign of Leo. This eclipse will be at 22 degrees Leo for those of you keeping track. Like any Full Moon, a Lunar Eclipse focuses our attention on relationships of all kinds. The Sun opposite Moon qualities of emotions and instincts reach their peak at a Lunar Eclipse. This lets you take an objective and balanced look at your close personal relationships. Being in touch with your own needs and intentions, and those of others, you can clearly see any relationship imbalances causing disharmony. With this lunation, in particular, the blotting out of the Moon represents a resetting of emotions, clearing away the emotional baggage of the previous six months.
There are several positive aspects to this lunation suggesting that change could come abruptly with some very valuable lessons to be learned. However, Jupiter will oppose Uranus complicating personal issues by exaggerating our need for personal freedom and excitement. You will feel a strong urge to react, or rebel against anything that is stopping you from having fun and doing what you want. There may be a sudden event that releases your built up tension and leads to a major change in circumstances. The more restricted you have felt, the more upsetting this change is likely to be.
On February 18th our imaginations come alive as the Sun enters mystical Pisces. Pisces is a mutable water sign flowing with the ebb and flow of life. Water has no shape of its own, yet it permeates everything and absorbs everything. Its power is deceiving and seductive. And so is the Sun in Pisces. As with the other water signs, when the Sun is in Pisces we tend to absorb the emotions of those around us. We don't just understand how they feel, we feel what they feel. This is how we learn about compassion. But it can also be a tremendous burden, for not only do we lose ourselves in the process; we want to fix the problems. We can take on responsibility for the whole world if we're not careful. While the Sun is in Pisces, it is important for us all to take some time alone, to recharge our own batteries, and to find ourselves again.
However, that ebb and flow of life may be a bit topsy-turvy on February 22nd when aggressive Mars squares off to powerful Pluto. This dynamic duo means power struggles and confrontations. This is because of the intense desire to gain control over others, or of situations. There may also be a strong need to climb the ladder and achieve more of a powerful position in a profession. Even if you chose to play it safe during this Mars square Pluto transit, you may have to deal with other people trying to dominate you or challenge your ego or position at work. This transit is hot energy that wants to be expressed through the aggressive actions, yours or of groups of people. So to avoid being a victim, it is better to strive for success but do so in a careful manner. Avoid ruthlessness, jealousy and underhand tactics. Try not to be overly assertive or make others feel threatened. This especially applies to superiors or those in a position of authority. People with more power than you will have the upper hand during this transit, so now is not the time to be starting fights and making enemies.
Our thinking turns to illusions on February 25th as mental Mercury enters Pisces. When the planet of reason moves into the emotional watery realm of compassion, traditional methods of making decisions goes right out the window. In Pisces, the mental activity of Mercury moves into a completely different realm -- the world of fantasy and dreams. Whatever your own method of mental reasoning is, you will undoubtedly encounter people who do not have their feet on the ground during this period. They won't care about being practical or working toward goals. They'll just be floating from one experience to another. If you happen to be a practical type yourself, you'll find yourself wondering how they ever manage to survive in this hustle bustle world. But there's a lesson there about living in the now -- if only for a moment.
We’ll have an opportunity to dream on a larger scale on February 26th as the New Moon/Solar Eclipse in Pisces ignites our imaginations. This Eclipse is at 8 degrees of Pisces and will be dominated by the spiritual planet Neptune helping to bring the hope of a brighter future. Good fortune and lasting happiness come from the stars in this region of the sky. This Solar Eclipse is just as creative and magical as the February 10th Lunar Eclipse. Acting in unison over the coming months, this eclipse phase gives you an opportunity to turn your dreams into reality by drawing on your god-given talents. Like any new moon, a solar eclipse represents the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new cycle. The strongest and most important aspect in all of astrology is the Sun conjunct Moon. It means that all possibilities are on the table and you can rightly put yourself in the forefront of new plans for the future.
We’ll have added encouragement to break free from restrictions and limitations when a super powerful transit of Mars, Uranus, and Jupiter alignment takes hold on the same day as the Solar Eclipse in Pisces. Transiting Mars conjunct Uranus and opposes Jupiter will provide the impetus to break out of any limiting situations in your life. You need change and excitement to spice up your life. However, a tendency to act spontaneously or erratically can cause unwanted surprises that could upset your life. Risk taking is not the best option now, even though you will feel like it. You should still follow your passionate desires and instincts but with self-control and a particular goal in mind. Making and sticking to plans will not work, so there is a narrow path between recklessness and missed opportunity. Flashes of insight or experimentation could lead to amazing new opportunities in your life if you pay close attention to your intuition.
