July Memory Verse
1 Peter 5:6-7,
"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time; Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you
.”

Humility
(James 4:6-10; 1 Peter 5:5-7)

Humility is the one, absolute essential virtue for any person to be a strong, spiritual, mature, & successful Christian.

Nothing destroys a life, home, ministry, nation like pride! Nothing attracts God's attention and brings God's blessing like humility.

Jesus Christ manifest the greatest life of humility in all history (Philippians 5:5-9). He lived for the Father's will, not  his own. He lived to serve, not be served. He focused on others, not himself. To seek humility, study the life of Christ.

Three suggestions on developing genuine humility in my own heart and life:
  1. DEVELOP A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF GOD.
(Isaiah 6:1-5) The clearer I understand how great God is, the clearer I understand how great I am not. The clearer I understand how big God is, the clearer I understand how little I am. The clearer I understand how wise God is, the clearer I understand how foolish I am. The clearer I understand how strong God is, the clearer I understand how weak I am. The clearer I understand how holy God is, the clearer I understand how unholy I am.
  2. DEVELOP AN OPEN HEART TO GOD'S WORD.
God's Word is powerful. It can, more than anything else in life, correct any and all wrong views I have of myself.
  3. DEVELOP A GREAT APPRECIATION FOR GOD'S GRACE.
Paul said, "by the grace of God, I am what I am." (1 Corinthians 15:10).
Humility is the precursor to revival (2 Chronicles 7:14); brings God's mercy and grace (even to mind boggling degrees, see 1 Kings 21:25-29); and brings heavenly honor. The heroes of Heaven are those who were humble on earth. Humility seems to be the one thing God cannot resist. Even the most wicked & ungodly men receive mercy when they humble themselves before God (again, see 1 King's 21:25-29 where even wicked Ahab finds mercy).

Last Sunday was exciting with great crowds, baptisms, patriotic singing & preaching, church picnic, games, and outdoor service in the evening with a bon fire and fireworks to finish out the day! What a blessing!

We have some BIG EVENTS lined up here at MLIBC for the rest of the Summer:
  • Neighborhood Bible Time begins this Monday, July 11-15. The NBT evangelists will be leading the youth crusade again this year and we are anticipating the blessings of God upon this effort.
  • With our nation in the condition it is and with this being an election year, our Constitutional Awareness Conference, August 14-16, is especially important. Dr. Chuck Harding will be preaching and teaching this meeting.
  • Dr. Sam Davison is preaching for us over the Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-6. The emphasis of this meeting is the preaching of God's Word. The Lee Bowman family with be providing special music on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
  • Then our 22nd Annual Sword of the Lord Conference is Sept. 25 - 27 with Dr. Shelton Smith, Dr. Norris Belcher, and Dr. Byron Foxx. God has greatly blessed this meeting over these many years and we are praying for a genuine revival in this meeting and in our personal lives.
Please pray for God's blessings, for souls to be saved and Christians built up in their faith.

Bring your Bible and a friend to church this Sunday. God bless.

Sincerely, your friend,
