"Kat Bytes"
the monthly newsletter of StudioKat Designs
Issue #174  January 2020

Hi and WELCOME!
Hoping you all had a wonderful Holiday season & you're ready to get back to your sewing machine! I know I am!
I've got a couple of great ideas for some new patterns and I'd love to get started on them, but I'm still working on getting my surgical knee whipped back into "fighting shape" but it's taking more time than I thought it would. Frown
At any rate, in reference to the FaceBook difficulties we were struggling with last month, FaceBook has been absolutely no help to us at all, but that's OK. We finally decided to abandon our old accounts & we started over with a new Business page & a new private Group page.
You'll find more info within the newsletter below, & if you haven't yet joined us on our new pages, we invite you to do so TODAY!

January 2020 "Eye Candy"
The bags you see below are among those that customers have shared recently on either our FaceBook business page, our Instagram feed or on our Group page on FaceBook. So thanks to EVERYONE! They were ALL great but here's a few of my favorites!
(For LARGER images: Click on each individual pic)
Sharon Edmondson sent these pictures of her totally gorgeous Everyday Attache. It’s like straight out of the sixties and I LOVE it!

Marilyn Karper stopped by my booth in Houston to show off her canine-inspired Flaptastic! Simple, yet SO SPECIAL!!!
This is Sarah Rasmussen‘s very 1st SKD bag & what a LOOKER! She said that this Sling Along was a challenge but she’s SO happy w/ the final result & I can see why! This pattern was perfect for this fabric panel (from Geek Garden Fabric).

And as you might suspect, Dawn Eratt is a major Harry Potter fan and thought this fabric was calling out to the Flaptastic pattern. It’s lovely!

Joy Brooks did a beautiful job on her Baggalista and she says she’s really looking forward to carrying it on a future trip

And isn’t this an amazing sight? Kim Mills made a Sling Along for each one of her daughters-in-law which she describes as her daughters-in-LOVE! What lucky gals (in more ways than one!)

And this yummy Sling Along was created by Doris Paisson. As a long-time fan of anything purple, this bag rings all the bells for me!

Debbie Harris used rainbow hardware & rainbow zippers to add the perfect touch to this vision in purple. Debbie says she loves her Wrapsody & enjoys all the space and pockets!
Paula Faes says that this Go-Go Compact is destined to be part of an exchange party. She added that this bag went together easy & that she has plans to make another for herself next!

And finally, Alma Lou Annab is back with yet another eye-popping bag, this time a Sling Along. I absolutely adore the bold fabrics Alma chose & I can imagine she’s stopping traffic everywhere with this amazing bag!

As mentioned in our December Newsletter, FaceBook rudely disabled my personal account late in November after I was hacked by some lowlife(s). I have tried everyway imaginable to get their attention so I could recover my account but unfortunately FaceBook has been unresponsive! This means I can no longer access my Business Page or my Sewing Group Page. Frown
So... if you were following us on either of those two pages, then you need to know that those 2 pages are now abandoned & out of my control. My recommendation is  that you UNFOLLOW both of those pages right away. I don't think the lowlife is still out there, but you never know!
Sadly I have had to start all over again with a NEW Business Page & Sewing Group page & I'd LOVE for you to join me on one or BOTH of these pages. (We post different things on those pages most of the time.) Just use these links to check out our new pages, both of which are emblazoned with cover photos that have "Official Badges" as seen in the photos above!

As the internet has grown to fight back against password crackers and other hackers, they’ve fought back just as hard. Now more than ever, having the most secure password is crucial. Two decades ago, common advice would be to simply never use a dictionary word as your password. Today, it’s much more complex than that. (I never thought this could happen to me because I was "careful", but careful is just not good enough anymore!) re:the FaceBook mess
For me, the best solution for creating a secure password is actually to not create one yourself at all. Say what? That's right!   {Click HERE} to read more!

Full disclosure- I've started using LastPass for my password generator. It was recommended to me after the FaceBook debacle by my SIL. Please know that I will NOT be receiving  compensation of ANY type from LastPass.

This is why we can’t have nice things.
I repeat that phrase when the dog chews up my favorite eyeliner pencil or the cat scratches up the new duvet cover.
Though pet owners have probably been saying this since the dawn of dog domestication, the truth is that pet owners can have nice things. We just need to know how to keep our stuff safe while ensuring that our pets still get the enrichment they deserve.

In the race to gain blog readers and newsletter subscribers, the craft industry has adopted the motto of “free.” They hope offering free patterns as lead magnets will lead to future sales.
Sam Hunter isn’t buying it. Last year, Hunter experimented by listing PDF patterns on her site at a suggested price that visitors could roll up or down as they wished. “I was slowly moving away from having all this free stuff. In January of this year, every single person who came to my site and took the free pattern, rolled it down to zero, and didn’t subscribe to my newsletter.” Instead of enticing readers with a free pattern, Hunter suggests offering a different kind of content, such as a Top 10 list, or advice for keeping your studio clean. She advocates for creators to raise their prices and put out quality patterns, so as not to train readers to expect free craft media.
