"Kat Bytes"
a monthly newsletter of StudioKat Designs
Issue #187 February 2021 |
So... if anything has been a common thread for this past year, it seems to me its that most everyone is ready for life to go back to normal... when they can do they things they love & plan for their futures. I've felt this way too at times!
But here's the deal... even though not being able to plan one's future is tough at any age, I've learned that one of the most important skills you can develop in life (no matter your age), is being OK with some discomfort. You know why? Because many of the best things in life are hard to handle at times, & if you shy away from difficulty & discomfort, you’ll live a life of safety, BUT, you might just miss out on something pretty wonderful along the way...
Think about it this way...Learning is hard. Raising a family is hard. Writing a book is hard. A marriage is hard. Running a marathon is hard. But all of them... ALL... OF... THEM... are amazing!
And speaking of amazing, we've got a lot of fun stuff for you in this edition of Kat Bytes, so... We better get started!

Ray McCoy made this fun Festival Pocket Belt for a friend who is active in Renaissance & German Festivals. He
evidently dresses as a pirate & has no place to put stuff… but now
does!
And this is Ray McCoy‘s interpretation of our Flaptastic pattern! He said the fun fabric he used is by Laura Heine & is called. “Bird in Hand”.
This is Linda Carrington‘s version of our Sling Along design! She said she had fun picking out fabric for this bag and will definitely be making MORE!
And don’t you just LOVE the “mother/daughter” Sling Along‘s that Joy Carr created? I’m hoping they can show them off in a Disney Park sometime this year!
Ray McCoy chose this cool fabric after seeing a picture of one of my cats sitting on a stack of boxes in my studio. I LOVE this Sling Along!!!
This is the 2nd Bangle Buddie Gwen Walker‘s
has made. She gave the 1st one to her daughter. She added piping
to the exterior, a keyring & 2 mesh pockets on the interior!
And Joy Carr finally made a brand new Sling Along for HERSELF for a brand new year and I’m thinking she’s going to have great fun carrying this one too!
Ray McCoy decided to close out his year by making this impressive Quattro for his daughter-in-law! I bet she flipped! |
Beth Knisely is the “Bag Lady” at her local Quilt Shop and has high hopes of being able to carry her new ErgoMatic somewhere FUN real SOON!
And finally, Nancy Rosa is back having made this Wrapsody for her neighbor and don’t you just LOVE the striped bias binding Nancy chose to use with this exterior? Genius!

A 53-year-old newspaper editor named Andy contacted me with an undeniably good idea: Parents should buy their kids a typewriter. He laid out his case, which is flawless and goes a little something like this, but in my own words:
It’s a sensory experience!
It has louder-than-usual keys, which would be incredibly annoying under some situations, but since I spend my typing time alone in my home office, I’ll admit that I freaking love it. Click HERE to read more!

Last summer, Jali Henry was feeling lonely and depressed after many of her friends moved out of the city because of the pandemic. “I literally had no one,” she said. “I was like, ‘What the hell am I doing here?’”
As a corporate recruiter working from home, Ms. Henry started to foster kittens, too. “I used to feel like I didn’t want to be in New York anymore, but once I started fostering,” she said, “I finally found something that made me happy and really occupied my time.” Click HERE to read more.
