We are wrapping up our Penny Wars. Right now the staff is in the lead by $5 over the seniors. We are sitting at around $750 raised, and the vast majority of that is loose change. The last time donations will be accepted is at 3:30 today. If you would like to participate, you can email me and get the money into me next week. All promises will be counted along with the cash in hand at 3:30. I should have thought of this earlier!

If you are interested in the future. Watch the video below for an incredible look at the future from 1974. Amazing foresight.

On Wednesday, I filled in for Mr. Haggart in a very special Christmas acting role for the elementary schools. I think Santa enjoyed the time more than the students did. I appreciate the Fremont Chamber of Commerce organizing that fun event. My annual Christmas message to students and to parents is to please be careful what Santa gives as gifts to the children in your life. I know it is awesome to provide for your family and make Christmas special. Unfortunately, there are many children that get nothing or very little from Santa on Christmas morning. The message those children internalize is that they were naughty (because that is in every song about Santa) or Santa just doesn't care about them. When the disadvantaged students go back to school, they see other children who Santa overwhelmed with gifts. It is nearly impossible to explain why Santa gave a lot of gifts to one child and not very much to another child. I was one of those students and I just couldn't understand why Santa liked all the other kids more. My parents did the best they could but comparatively speaking, it couldn't measure up to what Santa brought the rest of the kids. Later, I learned to appreciate what I received but that type of upper-level thinking wasn't available to a 7-year-old. Please celebrate and fill your children with awe and wonder. Please also remember that there are children who will struggle.
