News from the lawsuit between Kärcher and Tennant

At the beginning of September Kärcher initiated legal proceedings in several countries against its competitor Tennant for misleading claims about the so-called ec-H2O technology used in its scrubber-driers. The US company has now published a statement that fails to deal with the central points of Kärcher’s criticism.

“Tennant refers in its statement to all manner of things yet shies away – as in the past – from scientific debate. We would have welcomed it if Tennant had dealt with the contents of the expert report drawn up by a renowned specialist. Tennant will have to do so in the forthcoming court case,” said Hartmut Jenner, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Management Board of the Kärcher Group. “Many companies in the industry that are not competing with Tennant fully support our initiative and, like us, have commissioned scientific reports that come to the same conclusion. In time-consuming tests we have all demonstrated precisely that using the process Tennant advertises no better cleaning results can be achieved than with ordinary tap water. So we are very well prepared and look forward to the legal dispute unperturbed.”

Cleaning equipment manufacturer Kärcher sees as an initial success the fact that Tennant has now scaled down the disputed advertising claims. On its website and in its statement no further mention is made of the claim that activated water performs “like a powerful detergent”.

Kärcher is reporting on the Tennant case in a blog that was specially set up last week. This platform provides anyone who is interested in the case an opportunity to follow the latest developments in the dispute and share views on the subject. “The blog helps us to inform the general public objectively, comprehensively and openly about the facts of the case,” said Kärcher CEO Jenner. “For us it is a matter of protecting customers from misleading advertising promises.”
