April 21, 2011
We're excited to share this "Idea of the Week", submitted by either the MAiZE staff or one of your fellow siteowners. There never seems to be a shortage of ideas and the truth is that some of the best originate with all of you! So, if you ever have an idea you'd like us to pass along to the group, please just send it our way. Also, please remember that we'll be archiving these ideas on the siteowner web site, so that you can go back and view them whenever you like.
A Double-Duty Tree!

This week's Idea was submitted by Kathy Sherman from Sherman Farm in Center Conway, NH. Utilizing the beauty of a tree on the property, Kathy added a few wooden directional arrows that created a navigational tool for customers!

Tried & Tested
We have 2 sets of "Little Logs."  The were hugely popular with our guests - not so much with our staff (there is a lot of clean up throughout the day - people build them, but don't take them apart and put them away).  For us, customers built and tore down the cabins 10+ times a day.  We had a lot of trouble with tabs breaking off and roof pieces getting split, but have worked with the company to remedy the situation and we have some solutions. We redesigned the roof truss & reinforced the ends of each roof piece. We will be purchasing 2 new modified sets for 2011.  We are hopeful and cautiously optimistic that the improvements we have made will make it even better for this year.

2011 Application for Two $1000 Scholarships
Daniel Huffstutler, a good friend and former MAIZE owner, was one of the first to bring the corn maze concept to the southern states, opening a location in his hometown of Locust Fork, Alabama in 1998. In the spring of 1999, at the age of 24, Daniel unexpectedly suffered a brain aneurysm and passed away. The Daniel Huffstutler Memorial Scholarship was established in 2007 to honor his memory and help further his passion and love for agriculture.

The annual scholarship, now in its 5th year, provides an immediate family member of a MAiZE owner with $1000 toward their college education. Applications are due July 15 and the winners will be announced by mid-August. Applications are reviewed and scored by the 6 members of our MAiZE Siteowner Advisory Board and this year two scholarships will be awarded:

$1000 MAiZE-sponsored Scholarship
$1000 Jumping Pillow USA-sponsored Scholarship

To download a copy of the 2011 application, CLICK HERE.

Applicants must be enrolled in college for Fall 2011. Previous winners are not eligible, however applications can be resubmitted by former applicants who have not yet received the scholarship award. Best of luck to all of this year’s applicants...
