Acts 2:27-28 For You will not leave my soul in Hades, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy in Your presence.

PETER'S PENTECOST SERMON: PSALM 16

In these verses Peter quotes Psalm 16 to show that David was prophesying about Jesus. We think of David as many things: shepherd, king, warrior, and even a picture of Christ. But we don't often think about David as a prophet. Yet, that's exactly what Peter calls him in Acts 2:30 and shows by quoting Psalm 16.

When we consider David's prophecy, what an important truth is conveyed to us! While writing by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, David promised that Jesus would not be left in the grave, nor would He see corruption. Instead, Jesus would live. Hundreds of years before Jesus walked the earth, David had this confidence by faith and by the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Peter drew upon that confidence for his message on Pentecost Sunday. David's prophecy was confirmed in the resurrection of Jesus, which to Peter and those present had just taken place 50 days prior.

Do you ever need confidence in your faith? Do you look for ways in which the Holy Spirit is giving you strength? Of course you do, all Christians do! Draw upon the same source that David and Peter used. It doesn't matter who you are or what your place in history is. In human terms, we're far removed from the time Jesus was on earth, much farther than David and Peter. But we have exactly the same hope because we have the same Father, the same Son, and the same Spirit.
