This week's recipe
Brown Sugar Glazed Lamb
1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
2 Teaspoons Ground Ginger
2 Teaspoons Tarragon
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1 Teaspoon Black Pepper
2 Teaspoons Garlic Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Sea Salt
4 Lamb Chops or Lamb Steaks
Instructions: Mix the brown sugar, herbs and spices together in a bowl. Rub the lamb with the seasonings and place on a plate. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (overnight is great).
Preheat grill or grill plate. Brush grill grate lightly with oil, and arrange lamb on grill. Cook 5 minutes on each side or to desired doneness.
This glaze also works well with pork and chicken. |

Info from the LVHMA Farms!
Each week we give you a look at what is happening at the LVHMA member's farms and businesses.
Shyla and Steve Kennedy of Trinity Church Farm in Lincoln, VA (Ashburn Market) report that the hurricane came through and uprooted about 100 of their heirloom tomato plants, but the heirloom cherry tomatoes were more resilient! They still have their black cherry, the yellow and the traditional red variety to pick for this week's Market. Steve got about half of the plants stood up and repaired, and expects to have the rest up soon. The ripe tomatillos blew off--practically to the neighbors yard--but the plants are still healthy and strong and will continue to produce. Unfortunately, the corn is all but gone; between the dry heat of June reducing pollination and the stinkbugs, they did not get one single ear. In a couple weeks the corn stalks will be uprooted to make room for leeks and greens. Last week's seedlings of turnips are coming up, so there is a silver lining to this whole hurricane experience.
We told you back in June that MaryAnne Klank of Simply NutFree Chocolates (Ashburn & Brambleton Markets) was entering her delicious confections in a contest at the Retail Confectioners International 91st Annual Convention and Industry Expo in Pittsburgh, PA. She presented her chocolates at the Candy Clinic in the category "Best First Timers" and won this national award! MaryAnne was up against another company that had been in the candy business for 20 years but had just joined RCI this year. There were over 200 other confectioners in attendance and they were the ones voting. "RCI is a non-profit trade association serving the chocolate and confectionery industry since 1917. The members are comprised of chocolate makers, confectioners and industry suppliers with a passion for excellent chocolates. From independently owned businesses to large multi-million dollar corporations, RCI provides a forum for confectioners to meet, network, share ideas, solve mutual problems, and develop their candy making and entrepreneurial skills." MaryAnne has also been experimenting with new flavor combinations during the heat of the Summer--her favorite is a Thai Lemongrass Velvet--white chocolate truffle center with lemongrass and ginger plus a hint of cayenne covered in rich dark chocolate. Yum...She'll also have a Tangerine Velvet and a White Chocolate Velvet. All the velvets are gluten free as well as peanut/tree nut, egg and sesame free! . Get ready Ashburn & Brambleton--Simply NutFree Chocolates returns to the Markets on September 10 & 11!
Check back next week for more "Info from the LVHMA Farms"!
